trolling

Re: trolling

I'll tell you what I think it is but it's probably wrong.

Trolling is where you say or do things to get a rise out of people, like...
Let's say I'm playing Halo, right? I say:
"I think Halo is a pretty cool guy, eh kills alieins and doesent afraid of anything."
I would be saying this so that people will get mad and go
"LOL U R SUCH A RETORD U SHUD KILL YURSELV!!!!1"
"U MEEN MASTER CHIEF YOU FGT!!11one"
"You are an idiot."

And so on.
I'm pretty sure you can get banned for extensive trolling on this particular forum, I haven't looked at the rules for some time, but some forums don't really care as long as the person deserved it (I.E he breaks rules, acts obnoxious, etc.) and a few even encourage it, as they find it funny.

Re: trolling

Wikipedia:
''In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.''

Re: trolling

He's my hero? Gonna take pollution down to zero?

Waitaminute... that doesn't sound right.

Also, I always prefer to do my trawling with a troll or two along for anti-shark backup, so I have both.

Also-also, I added nothing to this thread but couldn't resist running off at the mouth. Let's try...

A summary=assholiness for the sake of assholiness.

Does that contribute? Iunno. C'mon, it's 6AM!

Don't get me started on that... I can sing the whole intro theme... yea I'm THAT lame... lol

Kidding aside Captain Planet is the man.

Re: trolling

i would be trolling if i said that trolls were people on the internet known for always being right.
it would also be ironic.

Encyclopedia Dramatica said:
A troll, most commonly encountered on the internet, is any person who purposely causes controversy in a web community (by posting offensive and crude comments or provides advice) and disrupts **** for his own amusement to prove how extremely corrupt our society is. The term troll is subjective. There are many characteristics of a troll.

as long as the post was INTENDED to cause controversy and was NOT created on a personal level. I.E. someone calling me an offensive name for no reason whatsoever, and me replying by making all sorts of personal attacks.

the person who came out of the blue and made a baseless insult on me was out to cause controversy, so that would be classified as trolling.
i've become personally involved in the matter and am upset, therefore i am not trolling.
trolls do not get angry, everything they do is emotionally detached and for the purpose of seeking entertainment from other peoples reactions.

Re: trolling

Trolling is any post designed to evoke an emotional or flaming response instead of an informed, well-reasoned reply. These posts are characterized by broad generalizations and personal accusations about specific people or groups of people rather than a well-reasoned assertion backed up with support. Just a few examples of trolling include:

- "All level 50s suck"
- "Kids under 13 have squeaky voices and are all annoying"
- "MLG players are arrogant"
- "Halo 3 is the worst game ever created"

Parody or satire threads are a form of trolling.
