The title was playable from start to finish and "virtually complete" in terms of content (according to The United Front Games) until publishers Activision axed it in Feb with the Guitar Hero franchise so it seemed the title was 'dead'. However the developers continued working on the game while they searched for a new publisher and earlier this week that time had come. New publishers Square Enix put out a statement saying that they were now overseeing the project but hadnt aquired the rights to the True Crime name. The game was originally meant to release in November 2011 but after being canned until this news it will now release in 2012 under a new name.
Square Enix London Studios general manager Lee Singleton told Gamasutra the following...
When we first saw and got our hands on the game we fell in love with it. It's one of those games where you don't want to put the controller down; it's what we call 'sticky'. When we met the team at United Front Games, it was a done deal in our eyes - we instantly recognised the huge potential in the game and the team.
Before it was dropped the title had recieved decent praise from playtesters and the media as being the best in the True Crime series.
