Whaaa? Dragon Ball Z Movie

Yea guys, it's real. I can't be sure to either scratch my head repeatedly or try and figure out what just happened. Now that I've picked the second choice, what just happened?

According to Kotaku,
So Hollywood is making a Dragon Ball Z movie, which will probably suck to varying degrees. Goku will be played by Justin Chatwin, Tom Cruise's son in War of the Worlds. Rumor has it that Mexican actress Camila Sodi auditioned for the role of Bulma, which makes sense as the movie is being shot in Mexico. If true, she might be a good choice. Aqua hair aside, she at least looks like her anime counterpart. Now whether she can act or not...
A users comment also pointed out that Stephen Chow is producing the movie, and you might know him from producing moves such as Kung Fu Hustle, and Shaolin Soccer. And while credit the guy for making wholsome, comedy/kung fu movies that were pretty decent for me...can he really pull this off?

To make things easier, let me compare Chatwin with Goku.

I bet you all have, at some point, watched a little tad of DBZ...maybe a commercial at least. I myself loved the series for its action, but its acting?

So action in a movie like this is inevitable, I'm just worried how it sticks, the acting, the casting, and how much it will compliment...or disappoint...the fans.

So what do you think?

I myself have posted a casting list for a DBZ movie:

Goku:Not sure...but for some reason Chatman seems fit for the job...I don't know.
Vegeta:Christian Bale...like Batman playing Vegeta.
Gohan:Mel Brooks...just trust me on this one.
Piccolo: Denzel Washington
Future Trunks:I have no clue.
Everyone Else: William Shatner
^Gold casting right there...am I right?
Oh yea...Yajirobe: Jack Black

Re: Whaaa? Dragon Ball Z Movie

Heard rumours of it long ago but hope they are all false and a live action movie never gets made... it would be a joke and a mockery of the series. A total insult to everything Akira Toriyama did with the Dragon Ball franchise and turned it from a comedy show (First episodes of Dragon Ball) to a pretty damn good one DBZ.

Agreed. But you have to admit, this was going to happen. Not that I appreciate it happening

Thought someone would try to make more cash out of it, but its been long finished in Japan and i hope Akira Toriyama decides to keep it that way and not allow this movie.

Re: Whaaa? Dragon Ball Z Movie

I agree that this movie will make a mokery (sp) of the DBZ series... but I'm still excited to see what they will do with it. Maybe, just , maybe, they can pull it off... tastefully.

Re: Whaaa? Dragon Ball Z Movie

Jesus Christ!

Why not just make a movie without the aim of it sucking. You know, like they did with Advent Children? You just freakin' can't use real actors in a case like this, jeesh.

Re: Whaaa? Dragon Ball Z Movie

James Marsters has been casted to play as Piccolo... :noexpression: Personally, i would have went with Chris Sabot.

Re: Whaaa? Dragon Ball Z Movie

Once again, I agree that the castings suck. But I'm not completly giving up on this movie. I'm still prayin (to the gods of movies) that it will be at least a 7/10.

Re: Whaaa? Dragon Ball Z Movie

Jack Black is an excellent choice for Yajirobe!

As for the movie: I'm sure Stephen Chow will pull it off somehow! I enjoyed btoh Kung Fu Hustle and Shaolin Soccer.

Yajirobe!

I, personally am in the middle with this movie...but James Marsters is a bit similar...you never know.

Question is, how does Toriyama feel about this? I mean...isn't it his decision after all?

Re: Whaaa? Dragon Ball Z Movie

I am very into this movie, and will be following it closely. As a HUGE fan of the series... I of course want to see it done very tastefully. But I'm not like other people who will write it off immediately. Just because the director, writers, and actors may not be the best in the world... there is still a chance it could be done well. In my personal opinion, Transformers turned out good. Was it completly identical to the original? No, of course not. But it was a new way to look at the old story. Much like I enjoyed that movie, as well as Rob Zombie's Halloween... I hope I will like this one. But it remains to be seen. All I know is, I will be looking forward to tracking this movie. And the release date on August 15th, 2008.

Re: Whaaa? Dragon Ball Z Movie

I know, but it was a live-action remake of a cartoon series.

The robots in the new Transformers movie weren't played by real actors.

Yeah thats about what i was thinking too, imagine the robots in transformers being actors in suits and thats how cheesy and rubbish i think this movie will be.

So? The humans in Transformers are just your average Joes. The Sayians and other folks of Dragonball Z are not. '

It just doesn't fit to make it a live action. Learn from the success of Advent Children.
