What a few new brushes led to..

I started out with testing some new wireframe brushes, and here's the result:

Not what I had in mind when I started, but what do you think? ;)

Re: What a few new brushes led to..

Not bad at all i quite like it. +rep

Re: What a few new brushes led to..

Pretty nice, you can`t go wrong with carbon.

Re: What a few new brushes led to..

Unsure about the choice of that colour green with that particular shade of blue.

Re: What a few new brushes led to..

I like it - would prefer centered text for the navigation (but that's just my OCD coming through ) and the colours fit well although personally I would alter the shade of green ever so slightly as it looks like it needs more blue in it or something...seems to have a tad too much yellow? I dunno...I haven't a clue about anything :D

Re: What a few new brushes led to..

Hmm, I'll change that particular shade of green and come back to you.

As for now, I present my test-subjects with this:

I'm not sure what to do with the large gray box, change the coulour? And where should I put my navigation?

Re: What a few new brushes led to..

ooh - pretty! :D

Definitely do something about the grey - it can't stay like that! Perhaps mess with some pale blue shades or go for something contrasting yet complementary? I'm not sure about navigation though as I can't decide...I suppose it would partly depend on the length/width of the buttons/text and how much you have. Perhaps you could have either side or above and below? Design isn't my thing, so I'm clueless - I'm about as artistic as a half-eaten sammich, I'm afraid

Looks great to me. Nice work, Zingo. How's the web-design business coming along, by the way?

Frankly, it's Sheite right now.

Recently it's been harder and harder to find a job, especially if you are a freelancer like me. One of my friends is working for this studio and they got loads and loads and LOADS of jobs coming in so maybe they will need more employees soon (I'm gonna apply then..).

And nope, I haven't got my website up yet since no income should not be combined with outcome!

(And yes, I am accepting ANY job right now, so if anyone is reading this:
Help me buy noodles :( )

Re: What a few new brushes led to..

Forgot to add rep earlier, will correct that mistake.

Anyway, still nice. I would personally change the blue, not the green, but that`s because I like green better.
About the gray box... hmmm, you`ve got a pretty nice backround there, maybe make the box transparent, everyone likes tansparency. Or as Angel said, something contrasting, but I think gray fits quite nicely.

Re: What a few new brushes led to..

Transparent is not an option my friend : )

The background consists of a gradient which is: blue-lighterblue-white-blue
And a shietload of edited brushes, shapes, effects, glow, strokes and vectors... The space behind the gray box is not very beautiful :)

Ah, thar she blows!

If you were wondering about the text, I put it there so noone is going to steal it. I mean, this site has a LOT of visitors so someone might go ahead...

Anyway, what do you think?

Re: What a few new brushes led to..

Looks pretty darn good to me, Zingo. Mind if I ask which Photoshop brushes you used for that piece?

Sorry to hear that business is a little on the slow side at the moment. Hopefully things will pick up soon. I'm sure you've probably thought of this already, but why not try contacting some of your previous clients and ask if they might be interested in having some more work done? Perhaps you could offer a discount rate.

Also, I'd highly recommend getting a website in order to show off your portfolio. Forgive me if you already know this, but you can get a website for as little as $5 a month nowadays and they're incredibly reliable considering the low price. I can definitely recommend TotalChoiceHosting.com - and don't worry! I'm not being paid to promote them! I don't get commission! I just think they're a pretty good web host and if it means I can help a fellow web-designer out, then ever better. ;)

Re: What a few new brushes led to..

Thanks steve, and yes I know about the website hosting-thingy. We have local hosting in sweden which is very good and also cheap (included domains, e-mail, support and backups). But since I'm only 16 my parents won't allow me to spend money on the whole business untill I can show some profit. And right now the profit equals 0. Atleast it's not below zero :P

I have tried contacting my previous clients but the stuff I made for them was mostly static website which don't need to change over time. So I'm currently trying to find any job right now so I can put me portfolio on the web!

And the brushes:
Floral_Brushes_By_Solenero73
floral_brushes_by_summerAIR
Japanese_Foliage
Roman101_Effects
Retro_Set
Gvl_SuddenlySpring_byValkyrie

And to that I also used illustrator and a whole lot of tweaking, moving clipping and deleting so noone will look at them and say "Hey, I recognize these brushes..." :)
