What is going on at GDC 2008?: Fable 2 Dev Blog

SourceThe Game Developers Conference is taking place next week from February 18-22. There are some really interesting sessions, tutorials and workshops on the menu, most of it very specific to game developers' needs and work. One of our own, Andrew Lindsay, will be talking at the (102) Staging Workshop: Visual storytelling Masterclass. It's actually a workshop that we've had in Guildford too, developers from Rare came down to join us and with a bunch of actors, Mark Travis (Theatre and Film Director) acted out some Fable 2 scenes, and he discussed film as a story telling device. The man certainly talks the talk! I can recommend attending this one, they're planning to have a big screen up so that everyone can see exactly what's going on at the stage.
Peter has one session (of one hour long) entitled FABLE 2 –The Big Three Features Revealed where he will talk about a really important feature. And this is a really big one. However, there are more than three features, so it should have been called "Three Big Features Explained". Or they should have left out the H so it said "Big Tree Features". Anyway, he's also up as part of a panel during the Are Games Essentially Superficial? Exploring the Positive Impact Model of Design session. There are some community specific sessions to which I'll go to, a 'drinks reception' with the founders of Wikia Gaming which is pretty exciting and then also several breakfasts of significance.
Peter Moore also started a blog, just a shame I'm not really into sports games. It would be interesting to read him post gossip about his coworkers; "Esmeralda from accounts has been giving me that dirty look again. I think she wants it."

Session Description
Peter Molyneux's stated ambition as a designer is to make FABLE 2 a landmark game. In order to achieve this three big design features have been added. The inspiration and rational behind these features will be discussed along with their evolution throughout the development process. The wider context of their impact and influence on the RPG genre with also be examined as the ambition is also to evolve the genre itself. The talk will be supported by retrospective videos as well as live game examples.
