persoaly i prefer offecive spells, so i go with shock or fire. vortex is cool once you get it to level 5. slow time is usfull, especialy when assigned to levels 1 and 3.
unless you dont like will lines, i say work twards all the spells. buy them all at level 1 to see what you prefer, and eventually get all maxed.

Shock and Inferno are the most aggressive spells, but raise dead is also extremely handy in combination with slow time. you can distract your opponents while giving yourself plenty of time to knock them off

well, the best spell is really a matter of opinion, so you really gotta try them all. what you should really ask is whats the best spell combo. im currently trying to figure that out myself, or i would tell you. mkay im gonna use a word i can spell this time, i prefer attack spells, like shock, inflame, and force push. as for offencives spells, i mostly use the hiddnen "rape all the gay black children" spell. (please everyone take that for the joke i tryed to make it.)

If you're going pure will, I'd say shock
You're ridiculously easy to kill while it's charging, but if you can get a charge off, it one hit kills everything in a large area.

As TJ said before; it's a matter of personal preference.
But, I'd like to elaborate my thoughts, if it comes to this.
There are several 'must-have' spells. Those are Raise Dead and Control Time.
If you're ever in a narrow situation, you'll be able to cast Raise Dead, which allows you to distract your enemies, in order to cast the following spell: Control Time. However, be aware that Raise Dead doesn't work on all type of enemies.
Another useful spell is Shock. Shock allows you to stun enemies (duh), for a certain period of time. This, then again, gives you time to escape from your current location.
The most useless spell in our list would be Force Push. It doesn't knock your enemies that far, and it doesn't damage that much, compared to Inferno, Shock, and other spells.

I think shock or inferno is bet if you want to kill multiple enemies at once , raise dead to keep them off you for a short period of time while you fight the enemy so then you have more time to get your health levels sorted or whatever but time slow is handy for other things apart from spells , vortex is good if your in a place with lots of cliffs or drops but I dont think force push is that good especially if your using shock because youll need as many enemies close to you as possible so you can kill them with the spell and you cant kill them if theyre to far away unless you single target them

i like shock,inferno and vortex.
but a good combo is raise dead,time control and shock or inferno.
but i like using raise dead then shoot or slice/smash on my enemies.
