Who's up for some poetry?

I decided I'd stray away from the Fable writing a bit and do a few poems. This is my first one. Bear in mind, I wrote this in about 15 minutes at 12 a.m., and it's my first shot at blank verse, so it might not be very good...It was inspired my the Chairman's Waltz from Memoirs of a Geisha.

A Swan

Silence,
And the ever shining moon
Casts a glow upon the water

Gently,
A swan glides across the pool of silver
Neck arched gracefully, white plumes shining

Slowly,
He raises his great wings, gleaming in
The shimmering light, cast from the sky

Silence,
And with a whisper, he is borne into the air
A silent, white shadow among the infinite stars

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

Here's another one talking about a person returning to their ancestor's homeland of Ireland:

Homeward Bound

I am sailing homeward bound,
To a land I lost that must be found
How far I’ll sail, I do not know,
Along the ocean’s mighty flow

I long to reach the land I miss
Where days pass by in utter bliss
A land belonging to the sea
Where minds are clear and souls are free

I yearn to see the fields of green
And mountains high and views pristine
Of shores that stretch for miles long
While in the air the birds make song

Towards my family’s home I go
An island who’s pride is quick to show
And though I live so far away
My heart lies there, where it shall stay

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

Wow...that's fantastic. I...don't really know what to say

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

Here's yet another one I wrote, in honour of my desceased uncle Jim.

Farewell

Farewell, said he, one lonely day
To the life that he had lived
His time was spent, no longer his
‘Twas a sad price he did pay

Farewell said he, in words so soft
To loved ones near his heart
Just as his final breath was drawn
As life is a thing best scoffed

Farewell, said he, when death was near
He sensed it in his bones
He longed to simply carry on
For death was his only fear

Farewell, said he, near his depart
Yet he had one more tale to tell
“Be saddened not at my quick death,
When one tale ends, a new does start.”

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

Another one I wrote late last night...not one of my favourites by any stretch of the imagination, but that's what you get for writing at 1 a.m.

And the sea came rolling…

I was standing on shores of yonder
When the seagulls gave their cry
And the sea came rolling, rolling, rolling,
And the sea came rolling, rolling in

While I stood upon shores of yonder
I pondered questions in my mind
And the sea came rolling, rolling, rolling,
And the sea came rolling, rolling in

I watched the water gently lapping
While one phrase seemed to hold my mind
And the sea came rolling, rolling, rolling,
And the sea came rolling, rolling in

The phrase I thought of near the water
Was naught but a small and simple whim
And the sea came rolling, rolling, rolling,
And the sea came rolling, rolling in

The human soul is filled with longing
For things that seem so far away
And the sea came rolling, rolling, rolling
And the sea came rolling, rolling in

This was the phrase that seemed to hold me,
Body, mind and earthly soul
And the sea came rolling, rolling, rolling,
And the sea came rolling, rolling in

For I yearn to see lands uncharted
Places left so unexplored
And the sea came rolling, rolling, rolling
And the sea came rolling, rolling in

But this is not where fate shall bring me
For rooted to the land am I
And the sea came rolling, rolling, rolling,
And the sea came rolling, rolling in

I was standing on shores of yonder
When the seagulls gave their cry
And the sea came rolling, rolling, rolling,
And the sea came rolling, rolling in

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

Brilliant! I must say, I'm quite impressed. There are some good poets on the site, but I would say that we've found another! +rep.

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

nice poems black keep up the good work!

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

Lol, dude, you need to make your own thread for your poems. Not to be rude, but this is a thread where I put my own stuff. If you make a separate thread for your stuff, you can post away there.

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

lol so sorry thought it was for people to share theres  the name seems that way :hmm: anyway sorry I will remover it :)

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

Lol, no problem. It'd be a good idea to start your own thread, because your poetry's pretty good.
I just found a poem that I did long ago...it's not very good, but I decided to post it anyway.

Greatwood Forest

Dappled light falls softly on the much trodden trail
Breaking through the leafy canopy
Leaves whisper in the gentle wind
Telling legends of Heroes fighting long ago

Ancient, gnarled trunks stand tall and proud
Spreading their fluttering tops to the heavens
As young trees begin to make their mark on the world
And tiny shoots spring up, bordering the trail

If you open your eyes and your mind
You can see fairies and nymphs flitting between the branches
Or sprites dancing through the flowing, rippling grass
As the giant trees cluster around, casting shadows

If you listen, you can hear the pattering of the deer
And the twittering of the myriad of birds,
Or feel the silence left by those secret people, the bandits
Stalking their human prey, the brave traders, traversing far

This place I speak of, in a land far away
Be the forest of Greatwood
Old in age and full of extraordinary beauty
Timeless and praised in tales forever…

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

Here is another one I wrote in about 10 minutes...it's actually not talking specifically about me, but humans in general.

I, Being

I, being human
Know nothing of the greater good
I, being human
Know not what true kindness is

I, being human
Trust not my fellow beings
I, being human
Trust not a single soul

I, being human
Fail to see the bigger picture
I, being human
Fail to see what is to come

I, being human
Stand alone in my thoughts
I, being human
Stand amidst the crowd as well

I, being human
Am an imperfect entity
I, being human
Am full of many flaws

I, being human
Am no more than what
I, being human
Am expected to be:

HUMAN

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

lol nice but do you have anymore rhyming ones? there one of the few that motivates me since I still have terrible describing words :)

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

Sure thing, I'll write a rhyming one. Any particular subject you want, or just anything at all?

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

anything I make mine in abut 5mins I just use words that go with eachother.

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

Here's another poem I wrote. It's not actually about me, I'm not that obsessed with books!

Once Upon a Winter Lonely…

Once upon a winter lonely, there I sat, the one and only
As all my friends had gone away
Sitting there, so sad and lonely, sitting there, the one and only
Made me think my life had gone astray

While I pondered, slowly thinking, in such a trance, I was not blinking
The darkest thought did reach my mind
And with that thought, my heart was sinking, so much that my mind stopped thinking
‘Twas sadness of the blackest kind

Did my friends want me? So I pondered, while in my mind, it rained and thundered
It seemed the answer was too clear
Out of my life my friends had wandered, I was not in the thoughts they pondered,
No friends had I to hold dear

Up I stood, my body turning, to my shelf of books for learning
They would give the comfort needed
Those silent books would sate my yearning, and save my soul from horrid burning
No longer my friends’ thoughts I pleaded

‘Twas then I realized, with mind reeling, that this sad and lonely feeling
Was no longer with my soul
Then I felt a joyous feeling, so happy that I prayed while kneeling
The sadness would not take a toll

I realized, with a smile gleaming, that now my soul with life was teeming
And now my heart’s no longer sore
There sat the books, plain was their meaning, they were my friends, so it was seeming
I shall be lonely nevermore!

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

Here's a poem about freedom of speech, partially inspired by the events of 2003.

My Language is “Freedom”

“Freedom of speech” is what we were told
Since long ago, in days of old
Yet here we are, in modern times
Where speaking out’s the worst of crimes

Shut up, be silent, is all we hear
About our views we hold so dear
The ones we want to share and say
Yet can’t for fear they’ll cause a fray

But I’m not going to stay a mute
So go ahead, go curse and shoot
‘Cause I still believe in a free land
Where it’s not so wrong to take a stand

I’ll say what I want, no matter the cost
If only it means this world won’t be lost
To those who want to suppress the free
And turn our backs to the evil we see

So don’t tell me things that cause a sting;
Ruthless words like “shut up and sing”
You’ve no right to hurt my feelings
They are mine, not your dealings

Because there’s one simple thing that I’ll gladly preach
It’s a little thing called “Freedom of Speech”
It’s the language I speak, simple and true
And if you won’t respect it, I’ve no time for you!

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

Pretty good keep up the good work.

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

New poem...Just something random I wrote today...and although I make use of the first person, I am not talking about myself. I am not going crazy!

Dreaming of Screaming

I think that I’m going crazy, going crazy
Driving myself up the wall
Why do my thoughts drive me hazy?
Slow my mind to this sheer stall?

I believe that I am dreaming, I am dreaming
While I meander through the day
What is this incessant screaming?
Holding me, it’s only prey

I think that I’m slowly slipping, slowing slipping
From my mad and angry mind
I can feel my psyche tripping,
Feel myself get left behind

Someone save me from my losing, from my losing
Of my dear and precious wits
Save me from the horrid bruising
Or I fear I’ll call it quits

Re: Who's up for some poetry?

I like the first one the best, Very interesting.

The day you came,
The day you left,
The day i died..
The days gone by make me remeber you..
If only you could come back today
So i could stay with you all day, So i could bind you to me.

Throw another stone, i promise it won't hurt me, just throw the stone.. So you can ease my pain, Throw the stone so i can let my emotions run free.. Throw a boulder to let my feels be squeezed out.. Push me off a cliff into rocks to end my suffering.

Spread your wings to leave this place..
Spread your wings to get away from this suffering, Fly from this place of pain and suffering..
Be with the angels where you can see.. That the things i go through are just to let you see me.

Save me from this pain.. Stab me with the devils horns..
Posion me with your words..
Slit my throat to let my cage be opened..
Come save me from this life.
Come end it for me.
