Why was the hob called hob?

with help of wiki, i found out a hob is
A generic term for various Dwarf-like and Elf-like magical creatures in Germanic folklore.
Hob: a household spirit in Northern England
A devil
The top cooking surface on a stove (i think it's this one)

and the stove part.. they are "hot" tempured! Ha.. mm.. Very Funny Adam.

If a hob is a mix between elves and dwarves why do they have those big sharp teeth? And why are hobs teeth so yellow? Do they eat a lot of candy?
