"With only 4 months left in this calendar year, November and December will be absolutely critical [for Sony] to gain more solid ground with the PS3." - Anita Frazier

After remaining optimistic on PS3 for close to a year despite slow sales, NPD analyst Anita Frazier acknowledged on Thursday that time is running short for Sony to stage a turnaround in the console industry.

"There is no doubt that the window Sony has to turn this around and bolster their position in the marketplace is narrowing," she told GameDaily Biz.

On Thursday it was reported that PS3 sales had dropped by 21 percent in August, this after a single month jump in sales in July due to the machine's recent $100 price drop.

"With only 4 months left in this calendar year, November and December will be absolutely critical [for Sony] to gain more solid ground with the PS3," Frazier added. "The story is still not fully written, but it's coming much closer to being so."

Though many analysts have been wrong in the past, the reality for Sony this holiday season is real. If they don't pick up the pace this holiday, then they're going to be in serious trouble, and MGS4 & FF13 are still too far away to do anything anytime soon, unfortunately.

They need something that would challenge for xmas number 1 and with GTA 4 slipping to next year their biggest hope has probably gone. Microsoft have 3-4 exclusive games out this year that are up for game of the year and Sony need one too.

The big jump in July showed them or should have show them that the price point is too high. Frankly it's a stretch to pay $400 for a game system. The $199 price is the sweet spot I almost expect to see the Xbox core/arcade there soon. If they came out with that for Christmas 07 They would clean up.

• $199 Core
• $299 Premium W/Halo or BioShock or Mass Effect
• $399 Elite W/Halo or BioShock or Mass Effect
• $499 Ultimate W/HD-DVD W/Halo or BioShock or Mass Effect

They've been saying that the real battle will be Christmas 07 since Christmas 06. I expect all three of them to pullout some big deals this season. Though all the Wii has to do to sell is be in stock :lol:

Another thought is that Sony has Blu-Ray tied up with the PS3 if it fails Blu-Ray could go with it. Blu-Ray would be nowhere without the PS3

They need to get some good exclusives. Lair and Heavenly Sword just don't do it for me. I'd love some Final Fantasys or other good RPGs, but thats just me. They're just taking too long to release the big titles, but again just the way I see it.
