because ou can kick them and the fun is kicking the not killing them + you get an acheivement for kicking one for like 5 times

they actually appear to attack you back if you shoot them.

yup, kick a chicken off a cliff or something and it will expload. you can do this even at the beginging of the game as a child. in the mean time shoot rabits and birds.
