WoW Trains Terrorists According To Australian Security Chief

Seems theres another crazy claim being made about the games industry and it doing bad thing, this time its the Australian Security Chief. He believes that the hugely popular online role playing game World Of Warcraft is being used to train terrorists.

Kevin Zuccato said:
Terrorists are being trained in games such as World of Warcraft to scout out simulated real-world environments, and train in weapons that are "identical to real-world armaments. Terrorists no longer have to travel to the target they want to attack to carry out reconnaissance, but create a virtual replica and rehearse an entire attack online. We need to start thinking about living, working and protecting two worlds and two realities.

It's official. The world has gone mad.

I'm waiting for the nutjobs to start saying Harry Potter games encourage children to kill each other with curses, personally....

Harry Potter was attacked a while ago and people said that it glorified black magic and witchcraft and should be banned

Small example: Harry Potter good or bad?

Re: WoW Trains Terrorists According To Australian Security Chief

People are dumb- and I kinda guessed shortly after posting that it probably already had happened .

Now, I've never played WoW so can't comment on gameplay, but if you're going down that route you may as well ban everything from games to TV. Hey, ban The Wombles because it encourages children to drop litter in the hope that they might catch sight of Orinoco one early morning...

If people want to train to be terrorists, they can go to Totteridge Drive in High Wycombe and visit the rooms above the cash and carry...instead of blaming a game, of all things, they could devote their time and energy to refining actual terrorism intelligence, booting out people who try to train others to make bombs and stop blaming everyone else for what is essentially a story of two sides...

Re: WoW Trains Terrorists According To Australian Security Chief

or "teletubbies encourages suicide bombings"

Re: WoW Trains Terrorists According To Australian Security Chief

Teletubbies has actually also had it's fair share of bashings - the guy who plays the purple one is *deep southren voice*a homosexual!

Tons of mad parents/church people/random nutjobs there, to say the least.

Oh yeah. Every run-of-the-mill terrorist carries around epic High Warlord gear. And it really grinds my gears, 'cus it makes them so damn over-powered.

I did. Way before the Burning Crusade, way before it went down the crapper. Some months/a year before the BC it started to go down the crapper, and the BC just killed it for me.

But it was one helluva ride whilst it lasted.

Re: WoW Trains Terrorists According To Australian Security Chief

Ok, you all need to calm down and take another look at this article. I can see plain and clearly that there is no blame on video games. He has only stated that he believes Abdul and lackies are using the MMO for tactical training. He hasn't stated, however, made blames or insults towards the game and anything related. In fact, he clearly states something positive(somewhat):

"We need to start thinking about living, working and protecting two worlds and two realities."

Now if that's something negative, then I'd hate to see what's positive. I know that blaming games doth enrage thee, but try not to mouth off unless you really know what's going on. Of course, now that he has stated this, there will be ****s trying to work to ban games at a greater rate. So I'll admit, this is going to lead to some painful results.

He had stated at games were becoming as dangerous as terrorist training camps and should be monitored like them, that is a bad thing in my eyes. In a guild with some friends practising some moves when a message pops up saying 'You are a suspected terrorist... account banned' :O

I mean how far are they going to take the protecting of two worlds?

Re: WoW Trains Terrorists According To Australian Security Chief

He never stated that games were becoming as bad, he said that no longer will the enemy just attack but also create real-world simulations on the net through various ways on create battle plans. That, however, has been available to any damn person worth his share in programming. Even the military itself uses certain, specialty made games and programs in training; not officialy, or at least I don't think, but it can be done.

But as I said, this article will result in very negative feedback. I never said we'd be dancing in a field of flowers. What your talking about is one possible result, but I can say in certainty that every gamer in the world that deeply cares about games and their freedom (even if they don't like the particular game) will do whatever they can to fight against that; hopefully all action will be legal.

And one more mention, you have to give credit as to he actually said to protect the two worlds as he could have just said: "**** the games, nip the problemn in the bud and ban these games!" Which shows that he hasn't been corrupted by these damned officials and their hatred of games.

America's Army is a good example of that.
