Xbox 360 DVD Drive Comparison

Came across this useful comparison while recommending a new laser for a friends Xbox 360 earlier. Easy way to tell which DVD drive your Xbox 360 has fitted into it without having to open the console up. Will help people who are trying to determine which drive they have or incase they need a new part for theirs and were wondering which one of the 3 drives that are in circulation they have.

Xbox 360 DVD Drive Comparison Samsung, Hitachi or Benq

... aren't they all under warranty from Microsoft? why would people need to know which one they have?

Because not all people are still covered by this warranty, as if you didnt get one with the console originally (some shops at the time charged extra to be covered by it much like PC shops) then there was no warranty to extend. Its an extra $50 to buy another from Microsoft i believe... unsure though.

didn't microsoft extend the warranties on all of them for 3 years?
the console hasn't even been out that long... how can anyone not be covered? O.o

My friend called me this morning and said they arent covered and have had to ring Microsoft this morning and could cost between £40 and £60 to repair. Even though the laser only costs £15 to buy. :hmm:

You had to have had the warranty in the first place for it to be extended he was told, if you didnt purchase a warranty then you dont have one at all to be extended.

Re: Xbox 360 DVD Drive Comparison

Nice one mate. My cousin happens to be having a lot of trouble with his Xbox 360 not reading games 50% of the time so this couldn't have been posted at a better time. He's gutted because it takes him anywhere up to 20 minutes to coax his 360 into finally reading Call of Duty 4 half of the time. ^_^

the more interusting part was fitting the HD dvd drive into the 360 but i wonder if it can play 360 games through that drive

What would be the point? The 360 games are all HD compatible through its normal drive and the HD Drive only reads HD DVD's.

well you might not know this but microsoft are rumored to make the 360 with a hd built in so if you have the extra HD drive you can get the upgraded version for free of just buy the drive for about £70 (it is £70 pound isnt it?)
