We know intense sessions of Halo 3 tend to bring out the worst in the players susceptible to bouts of anger, racism, homophobia and mental ineptitude, but a TCPalm news story still manages to surprise with its tale of a boy launching a melee attack on his own mother. According to the report, the parental units made the grievous error of informing their son that he had to say goodbye and goodnight to Halo 3 for the evening. When the youth failed to comply, the parents removed the "aircard" (we had to look that up) from the console, resulting in a disconnection from the internet and apparently, civilized behavior.

The report states that the youth responded by searching the house for the device, punching his mother and then locking himself up in his room. After the unimpressed parents rang the police and pointed deputies to the door, "the juvenile allegedly responded with profanity," presumably some variant of "GTFO noob deputards lol." In-between unlocking the door and finally slapping on the handcuffs, the youth managed to append one officer of the law to his dubious list of punched authority figures.

Perhaps there aren't enough parents these days that discipline their children enough... Well, in any case there's always the good side to this: He's one more less "pwned you n00b!" kid to be dealt with on XBL.

I like how they translate Punch into melee Attack on his mother. They should realize Halo isn't the only game with a "melee" attack, and he basically could've learned the violent behavior from anywhere really. The parents are yet again, at fault for not monitoring their child.

I knew someone in Middle school that treated him Mom like that. He didnt play any video games at all he was just an ***. That behavior has nothing to do with playing games.

Funny how you don't hear about the Halo 3 playing kid who says things like "Thanks for getting me Halo 3 Mom" and "Please can I play until 10:00? I already finished all my homework and we don't have school tomorrow"

Yes, exactly. But apparently, the media needs their top fix on getting the dirt of the public out there to people. Since news like this would be more entertaining and would likely get more views and publicity then say a report on: "A young boy helps clean the neighborhood park, after being influenced by a game called Viva Piniata"...

Little brat - I'd kick his head in.

Dunno the rules across the pond but here the most parents are allowed to do is give their kids a "good telling off"...to me, that isn't discipline, that's a cop-out. No point in trying to reason with an irate child - they aren't adults and they lack the maturity and comprehension to be reasoned with fully. Stop the situation first and then chat about it after, I say, when they've calmed down.

And if you are feeling particularly strict (or evil) then you remove console, TV, games and bedroom door. Take away cell phone, all access to money and refuse to drive them anywhere for a set period of time. Then what are they going to do?
