Xbox Live?

I was curious as to what all you need to play on Xbox live...I know they sell Gold Membership Packages, but they're for the Xbox 360, and I have the Original Xbox. The only thing I can find for the OX is a 12-month subscription card, but I'm not sure that's all I need. I've heard about people using headsets, and what about connecting to the internet? Surely I don't just need a subscription card...

Re: Xbox Live?

I had ordered Xbox Live over the net and just had to set up my account and plug my Xbox 360 into my router with an Ethernet Cable. Microsoft send you the headset when you order live.

Re: Xbox Live?

It's pretty easy. Just plug your internet cord into the back of the Xbox/Xbox 360. Turn on your system and go to the connect screen. I'm only familiar with Xbox 360 where it would open up automatically if I left the disk drive open. Just hit the button to connect. You may need to sign up for a new account in order to use your subscription card, I'm not sure about that. This website should help you:

I would suggest getting a subscription card from Amazon.com: Used and New: Xbox 360 Live 12 Month Gold Card as you can get one for almost half the price as they are seen in stores such as EB Games or GameStop.

Do you have a router? If so, does it have more than one Ethernet port on back free? If you do then just get a spare Ethernet cable for a couple of $'s and use that.

Re: Xbox Live?

I purchased the Xbox 360 Pro package and it came with a HUGE cord to connect my Xbox to my modem. You could go to the store and purchase one for about $10 or so.

Re: Xbox Live?

thanks...and a router is the same thing as a modem? I told you, I have nooo clue about this stuff

Router usually looks something like this:

So you can have more than one device connected to internet at same time.

Re: Xbox Live?

All I have is a modem(doesn't look like what you showed me)...it's got an open ethernet slot...but my xbox is around the corner, down the hall, and around another corner, and I don't have the money to get a whole new modem, so...

Just means you will have to plug it out of PC and into Xbox when you want to use it thats all. So wont be able to go online on both at same time.

Re: Xbox Live?

aahh...thanks DD, sorry for the slowness and confusion

Dont worry about it, i was confused when i first looked into getting Xbox Live also as it sounded to easy. But it really was easy to set up and get things going, i was really impressed.

Re: Xbox Live?

Sometimes having being on both at the same time will slow down your online play anyways. I used to play Socom 2/3 online with my Playstation 2 and usually people with a router would lag.

I can happily have both mine on and get no lag and my connection speed isnt that high, so long as im not doing something taxing like downloading large files i dont see any difference.

Re: Xbox Live?

is there any way I'd be able to have both on at the same time, cause my mom's gonna flip if whenever I want to play Live she has to get off the computer....(yay 400th post )

Need a router to do that (thats why i bought one). Allows you to have more than one Ethernet cable going into PC at one time.

Re: Xbox Live?

alright thanks...I guess I'm just gonna have to get one...was hoping I could avoid it...:'(

They arent hard to set up really when you get your head around it, i was confused with mine for a while but that was because a setting was wrong and i had to change it.

Re: Xbox Live?

so if I get a router, can I just have to plug it into the modem and then into my Xbox? Grr I'm confused

Get a router that is also a modem, then you just plug PC into it and also Xbox into it.
