  • I've had a little practice - I work for a charity after all  Act dumb and it usually works in your favour - plus people underestimate you and you can wow them all the more when you do produce something astounding.

People rarely bother to send letters any more so it shows something a little different if you write to them - largely because they can't ignore it. Emails are simple to ignore but letters require attention. The less people using mail, the more chance of it being seen by the person you want because they won't have sackloads to wade through.
ahh, i think fable 2 will last a while since once we get bored of game we mod it and hopefully then make movies with it.
lol - you mentioned it once in passing and I thought I'd be polite and use it

When you contact the companies, make it clear you aren't begging for a job...they might be more likely to speak to you. Even better, act like you're still about 13 and want to be just like them when you grow up - it's for homework or something so would they mind letting you know how they got their job and what they'd recommend? Seriously, lie through your teeth if that's how you get the info and seeing as it doesn't have any effect with regards to an application, you're not harming anyone. They probably get a zillion submissions per day but if yours is just info hunting for a project you may get somewhere. Worst comes to the worst, put pen to paper and use snail mail - that way it can't be stuffed in the Spam area of their inbox ;)
Hmm...yeah - uni grades seem to be ten a penny these days. And more and more companies are favouring experience over letters after your name...I suppose you could take a look at the sort of places you'd want to work in and see what their criteria is. You could study a trade but that's not a quick thing either and in order to maintain your accreditation you'd need to be available for every single bit of re-training and assessment programmes required which could have a knock on effect...especially electrics. Sure, the money is sweet but no one can afford you!

The finance bit is tough - everyone who goes winds up in debt unless they get things paid for on their behalf - then there is the potential long periods of time away from Hayley if the uni you can get into winds up being far away. To me, the pros seem to be in favour of earning and writing rather than uni but it's your call...a lot of companies would want to see at least one or two sites/reviews/articles you've been part of as an idea of whether you'd be right for them. A few letters after your name might make you seem more educated but I know plenty of people with degrees who have lost out to someone random because they actually lack the experience required to make the cut.

Haave you tried asking one or two companies what their hiring policy would be, hypothetically, if you were to go to Uni and study whatever it is and whether they would accept a portfolio instead of grades?
Yeah I'm pretty fortunate - just a shame Steve has had to inherit it, you know? We'd both much rather his parents were still alive than have money...

Do you reckon you could do Uni and writing? Pretty tall order but if most students can waste hour after hour getting hammered in the SU bar, then surely you could use at least some of that time to write? I guess it depends where your passions lie, really. I knew I'd hate uni so I didn't go...but if the courses you want are going to get you where you want to go in the future then they are maybe worth doing?
Yeah, my parents are the same really - neither of them have much money and that which they do have is often donated to my sister (well, my dad does anyway). Perfect example: My sister's wedding: Dad gives her £2000. Me? A lukewarm email about marriage and its various trials

Steve was left a certain sum of money after both his parents died and we've got someone who invests it on our behalf so that we can only ever use the interest...we're only in our 20's and as work is thin on the ground, it would be foolish to spend spend spend only to hit 30 and be skint....a lot of our money is tied to the house, really - we bought it outright and it's value has depreciated by about £9000 in the last year thanks to the crappy economy but it's still an investment should we get into money trouble later on I guess...still, for the first time in my life EVER I don't have to decide between food and heating, so that's a bonus I still haven't gotten used to...
Everything sucks moneywise in this country right now - my nieghbours are struggling with mortgage, debt, house improvements which MUST be done in 6 weeks time or they lose their jobs as foster carers...the list goes on and they have two kids, one foster teenager and goodness knows what else to pay out for. They're good people and they're always there for me and Steve when we need them so if I can help, I will. And if I can't, I like to try and find someone else who might...
Yuppers - this month sucks with Council Tax, electricity bill, water bill, gas bill, bill bill etc... That's why I intend to work like a demon for the next two months to prepare for Christmas. I'm £60 down at the moment coz my neighbour got a ticket from the police for not having a valid MOT and if he doesn't pay he's screwed so I've covered it for now...we have this running joke that I'm The Bank of Powell and they bank with me coz I don't charge interest on overdrawn accounts
 We used to have two VERY volatile Canadian members here who took offence at EVERYTHING and were incapable of reasoning with...what Walker said just reminded me of how awful those two were and I couldn't help but giggle

I would think of the money if only I got to hold onto it for longer than three days after pay day
Yeah, I get paid according to how many hours I clock up - the last couple of months I've been so damn lazy I've made about £200 out of a possible £1500...really need to step up now if I'm going to get to Christmas in the black
Yeah...pity my bank balance is dwindling so quickly though - haven't worked nearly as hard enough as I would have liked to this month. That's the pain of working from home - so easily distracted!

Still, the child is away from Tuesday next week so I can get some extra hours in...although I have a sneaking suspicion those hours will be wasted on gaming and sleep
    All links are gooooood :D

Yep this place is going to be hotter than a hooker on conjugal visit day...or something...I need coffee

I do like it over at DMC.org I just hate how it seems to alternate with here - when this place is being crap, everyone over there is great. Then they start to suck and it gets nice here...why can't they all just be nice???

Be back in a little while - just got to nip to town and spend Steve's money - it's a hard life I lead but one I'm willing to carry on with for the sake of the childrne. Or something...
You know something? I have a list now of people who perpetually wind me up on that place...he's one of them but his lackeys and that new mortal enemy of his (because I'm still not sure whether he's a good guy or not) are starting to make me cross in the face....
 Yeah...but we'll soon sort that out, won't we? :D

At least here I can publicly complain about certain people without getting done for it...:sly:
