Heard of him, never read him.

He's got a series with like 20 books in it.

Well, it's not really a series, but several series set in the same universe, with the same characters and with intertwining storylines. He started writing them in the early '80s, and he still hasn't finished them.

But yeah, I recommend them.

I might get around to them eventually.

Also, who the hell is James May, and why did he think Maryland was a good place to build a space elevator?
Arseface

You haven't ever seen Top Gear?
Walker
Walker
Nope. I assume that he was visiting Goddard or something?
Arseface
Arseface
I dunno. There was a bunch of guys in some kind of warehouse, with a crane, several solar panels, and a searchlight.
Walker
Walker
Iunno. Maryland has Goddard Spaceflight Center, several universities with excellent aerospace programs, and an assortment of tech companies. Could have been any of them, or some random guys in a warehouse.

I... see? Apparently he can't even pronounce Maryland right. What an idiot.
Arseface

He's just British. I'm sure you probably cant pronounce a lot of place names right.
Walker

C'mon, Arse, what kind of moron pronounces it Mare-e-land?
Arseface
Arseface
What kind of moron pronounces it Mel-BORN, or Bris-BAYN?
Walker
Walker
Nobody talks about Australian cities, Arse. Don't you know that?

Now I want to know, though, how do you think they're pronounced?
Arseface
Arseface
We pronounce them Mel-bun, and Bris-bun.

All I'm trying to say is that there's no right or wrong way to pronounce a place name.
Walker
Walker
Temporarily serious: that's different. We pronounce it Mare-uh-land, like it's a single word that has no connection to the name "Mary." Which is weird, I admit, but that isn't the same as pronouncing "-bane" and "-bourn" the same way and completely different from the way either is spelled.
Walker

And there IS a right way or a wrong way to pronounce a name. But you don't care if it's not your place.

Also, pronouncing it "Mare-e-land just sounds ridiculous."
Walker
Walker
Also, you know what's ridiculous? "Worcester." It's pronounced vaguely like Worster or Wooster or something, and both the Maryland county and the British version pronounce it the same.
Arseface
Arseface
I've always pronounced it Mary-land.

I don't care if people say Mel-born, or whatever.

It's like the damned French, with all their redundant letters.

Boreaux is said Bord-oh ffs.
Walker
Walker
WEL YURE WORNG!

Howsabout Melbarn?

Damn those extra letters to heck.

Wait! That's dropping a letter! Shouldn't that be Boro?
Arseface

NO U

Thats funny, but not offensive.

I meant Bodeaux. SHUT UP
