its my opinion sorry if you dont agree with that. They got themselfs in that way
Like Andy said, that is not always the case. I became homeless because my family home had to be sold and my job was not bringing in enough money to rent anywhere. Then I had to leave my job due to various reasons and so was left with nowhere to live and no money. It really is that simple.
I spent a year sleeping wherever I could and the accommodation provided by the local council was little more than a crack den full of nutters and addicts. There were regular stabbings and shootings, people used the hallways to relieve themselves and the doors were locked after 5pm so you could not leave to go anywhere - after I was attacked myself I had to leave and live in a safehouse for women with children. I remained there until Jessica was born and then finally a social worker managed to get us somewhere permanent to live. I was very very lucky indeed. Had I not had any family connections with the town I was in at the time, I would not be a priority to be housed and could have spent anything up to 8 years living wherever I could find space. Even the safehouse would only have accommodated me for a certain length of time before turfing me out. They don't have room for everyone and at £150 per week to stay there, it wasn't the cheapest option and the council would eventually refuse to pay the majority of those costs and shunt me back to a crack house again.
Begging for food and money is not something I enjoyed doing, but there was no alternative. Yes, you can apply for benefits - but they take anything from 6 weeks and upwards to come through - in the mean time, you have to fend for yourself.
Some people may well choose to run away from home and prefer a life on the streets to living with their family or whatever - but it is certainly not something they would do unless they felt there was no other option. I guess unless you know someone who has been there or you've been through it yourself, it must be difficult to understand...
