It's similar to prohibition - as soon as you illegalize something, it opens up a niche for criminals to traffic said illegal product. Legalisation would allow careful monitoring of the drug and stop cartels from making money.
Also, all the 'oldies' I've spoken too say the stuff around now is more damaging for the brain because of it's strength, and it's true. Compare AK-47 to Big Buddha Cheese and you'll see the difference.

Exactly. It made the mafia get involved and lots of bad stuff went down. Look at Amsterdam where both prostitution and pot is legal under controlled forms. By legalizing these things there is no attractiveness for criminals to be dealing with it and as such they totally eliminated all the "bad elements" that usually comes with the two.

Exactly.
If it was made legal the prostitutes would have the same level of security as a licensed pornstar. But instead they are stuck in the horrible world they all live in now, just because people are morons.

In the UK, prostitution itself is not technically illegal - but touting for business is. Getting paid for sex is not against the law but if you advertise your, er, services then you risk getting banged up. And not in the way you intended...Gikoku Harakami;381492 said:

Yeah same over here in Sweden. But in the States I think it is illegal for both parties involved.
EDIT: The more I think about it, the more I realize what a sweet job being a male porn star would be. No more hanging at bars, no more pick-up lines and awkward mornings after. Just gettin' it on with hot babes all day long and in the end of the month you get a big fat paycheck for your "troubles". Legal and everything.

Seriously, this is one of the only things Australia has going for it. Legal prostitution.
You'd probably get bored of it, and it would just get like wanking in the end. Besides, the chase is half the fun (well, it's a part of it, at least).

I'd just like to throw something out there since nobody's mentioned it yet. The reason some people drink or smoke illegally is because they get a rush from doing something they're not supposed to. People most likely won't be consciously thinking this when they're about to take a swig from a bottle or a hit from a bong, but it might have influenced their choice to do so to some degree. If weed is legalized, that thrill will be taken away, and less people will have a desire to smoke it. That's why the US has a much higher rate of drunk driving accidents than do European countries with a low drinking age or none at all.

Weed is a gateway drug. People want to achieve a much bigger high once they're bored with weed. I've been seeing it happen this school year. Smoking it in moderation, however, makes you less tolerant and will keep you satisfied with your highs.
I understand your lack of access to it, but for future reference, it won't hurt your attention span or grades unless you smoke it all the time. I started smoking last July, and ever since then, I've only done it about two or three times per month. My grades have not fallen at all. In fact, if anything, they're better than they used to be (not that there's a correlation between that and smoking weed, though).

Look at it this way. You are more likely to find a kid smoking weed during school than alcohol. The only solution is weed bars really.

All three will either psychologicaly or physically ruin you at different rates for different people..
Today cigarettes and alcohol in countries like Australia, are not a big deal when seeing kids smoking or/and drinking... However if a family member found you getting high matters would be different causing it to be a serious issue.. Parents (who think it is wrong) will question their siblings trust, and in an extreme case (if they think weed is very harmful) will kick the boy out. This happened to a friend of mine, who was called a junkie by his father.

If marijuana was legalized in Australia, for some time it would still be considered an anti-social drug, and would be associated with harder drugs and failure (for example getting high during an exam.) However in America marijuana would be considered more of a social drug, straight off and would be associated with lets say positive things such as having fun (similar to how alcohol is viewed.)
Maybe in the future if it was legalized countries would view it differently, but you have to remember people will hold onto some beliefs.

It'd be way more secure than that. They screen people for STD's regularly and contraception is probably mandatory.
