As the title says, there are games out there filled with characters that are just plain awesome and loveable. Then there are those who manage to grind your gears so badly you want to boot them down an industrial meat grinder. Share the video game character(s) that get on your nerves and state exactly why they do (or you can throw a video in here of their stupidity instead).

1. Duck Hunt: I loved this game when I was a kid, pretending I was the greatest duck hunter in the world by shooting ducks in mid-air while diving onto the bed... but then that dumbass dog that always laughs at you. Seriously, I couldn't have been the only one who just stopped shooting the ducks and resorted to shooting the dog instead, every time.

...ahem...anyway, there aren't very many characters that bother me too much. The ones listed are pretty much it. I'll probably think of something later on.....

Blue and Silver (Pokemon R/B/Y/FR/LG and Pokemon G/S/C/HG/SS): They always think they're better than you even when you kick their asses over and over again.

Whisper (Fable: TLC): Like the rivals in Pokemon, she always thinks she's better than you even when you keep beating her. She's so annoying. I was so happy when I was given the option to kill her on my first playthrough.

Reaver (Fable 2 and 3): So...many...reasons...Maybe I'll post them all here sometime when I don't feel so tired.

Carth Onasi (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic): He's just such dick to you every time you try to talk to him.

i hated falco when i was younger. i'd have just beaten some insane mission on starfox64 and he'd be like "look at me, my ships practically blown up, douche. learn to fly better." don't get me wrong, slippy was always in trouble and peppy was always saying you were as good a pilot as your dad, but falco was just a complete prick.

it's like "HEY when have you, slippy, or peppy ever shot down ANYTHING?? I'M THE ONE who always has to get in the stupid submarine or tank while you fly above not having to even dodge. if your butt ever DID get shot down the ships robot would just repair your ship so you could complain about the furniture on the ship for a mission instead of doing anything."

but i stopped hating him so much when he became one of the most badass characters EVER in super smash bros. melee. even if he still is a cocky prick.

Mario irritates me 'Hey its me Mario!'... yes we know you havent shut up for over 20years and for a plumber ive never seen you fix a leaking sink or anything you fraud. Plus anyone who needs escorting anywhere in any game ever as they seem to lose the use of their legs and walk into walls or just plain slow you down. Like escorting a wheelchair bound blind person with your voice and holding a map upside down.

Those two ruddy annoying squeaky kids in Lost Odyssey - what are their names now? Cookie and Smackhead or something or other...can't remember. In fact, a lot of JRPG kiddy characters make me rage purely by being so squeaky and annoying.

Baird with his incessant moaning gets on my nerves - in the books, he's actually quite likeable for me but in the games I just want him to shut up. I also could never get on with Briar Rose, Hammer and Whisper from the Fable franchise - bunch of gobby cows all of them.

Oh and any NPC who is supposedly "on your team" but can't follow basic instructions and either runs into your line of fire or uses up health packs like they're going out of fashion the second they split a nail or something. Those two morons from RSV 2 are prime examples of idiots - they run out into enemy fire, inevitably get shot down and then when you tell one of them to heal the other they just spin on the spot saying "I cannot do that!". Yes you damn well can - get off your pixelated backside and stab the guy in the leg with a needle so we can get on with the mission...oh too late, the terrorists have killed us. Well done. Slow claps all round.

I personally don't have any characters that annoyed me in a game...

... Except for ONE. ROMAN BELLIC. He's one piece of a whining bastard who doesn't know when to stop complaining about something. Whenever something goes wrong, he starts blaming me. Then when he finally shuts up, I get a call from him, asking: "Wanna go bowling?". No thanks.

Veronica Dare from ODST gets on my nerves too - I really have an issue with mouthy women in video games; I know they try to portray them as "strong assertive and as good as any man" but to me they just come across as ball breakers with no respect for anyone without boobies. Or in Ashley "I've got a massive chip on my shoulder" Mass Effect's case, she's got no respect for anyone. At all. Was a pleasure letting her die, I tell you...

Something always bothered me about characters like that, and I could never quite figure out what. Honestly I had it pinned to some inherent sexism towards a strong female character but now that you mention it, you're right. I don't like any douche characters who can't pull off being a prick to everyone without a little finesse (a la Hank Moody). In fact, they aren't "strong" characters at all...pretty 2-dimensional if you ask me. No emotions, just a formulated personality which you can plug into whatever conversation is going on and predict what will offend them with no knowledge of background. Just "I'm a female space marine so if you don't always tell me to take point it's because I have ovaries."

Thank you for making me feel better about myself and supplying me with ammo the next time feminists get offended over something unintentional (they can be very irrational, but I usually can't figure out why until later on).

Any and all Gears of War characters; they were too serious about making them über masculine. It is like they tried to make a realistic and believable clone of Duke Nukem.
