No. They're there for aesthetic reasons only. They're activated when using a Flourish (melee) or, and I'm not exactly sure about this, charging up a shot with a pistol/rifle.

No halo's the basic thing you get is just wings when you flourish/hold in your meele button near an enemy.

BUT you can get devil horns if evil.

Not that I know of. It might appear during a Flourish but I think they removed it in this game.

it was removed because of difficulties in modeling for the florishes it interfiered with their emphasess on the wings so instead they put in butterflies like in fable I and a beaming light from heaven

they should've just kept the wings in at all times, like if you wanted to show off you could keep them on, or turn them off when-ever.
