Within a couple hours of gameplay, I had the only weapons I was going to need for the rest of the game. Because of that, I had no motivation to go out and earn money/invest in real estate, which in turn left me pretty much broke for the kingdom management part which I of course assumed would be no big deal, right? Go out, make some money, invest, and put it in the treasury, right? Wrong, once you become king you can barely do anything else until you've completed the game. I was pretty much forced to take about 3mil casualties and the few that are still alive hate me. The map feels like it was thrown together in 10 minutes, buildings are placed in a general area and sometimes just lumped together because they are near each other. It looks nothing like the actual area, and it doesn't help that waypoints can only be set on quest NPCs.
Not to mention that the kingdom management which was hyped up so hard boils down to nothing more than a few quests and some Money vs. Citizen Happiness choices. Reaver argues for the side of Money in every choice, they were too lazy to even throw anyone else in there. The game decided I was 100% evil, even though I tried to keep a balance, and from what I can tell there is no straightforward way to raise my morality (i.e. Fable II's temple donations) so now everyone is terrified of me which is pretty annoying when I just want to walk through town without everyone begging for their lives
They've stripped away so many things that made me fall in love with Fable II, including most of the humor. Fable II's progression system is thrown out the window for a system of earning seals that simply buy everything. Side quests serve almost no purpose other than progressing the main storyline through earning seals, which makes them feel like nothing more than a grind, especially since basic features that one would expect from a Fable game must be bought with seals. The quests felt so stock and boring as well, just "Go here, kill this, find this, come back, repeat."
The NPC interaction system is nothing near the glory it was made out to be. It's clumsy, tedious, and regardless of the fact that I have spent seals to unlock all the expressions, the game only gives me a choice of the same ones over and over. The courier quests are pointless time-wasters.
Add on top of all that the fact that the storyline is about only about 10 hours of gameplay (I don't know what he was smoking when he said you get to be king "halfway through the game", because it's more like the last 2 hours) and I was extremely disappointed. This isn't what I'd expect from the third title in a series, it feels like they've gone backwards.
Sorry for the rant, just hoping I'm not the only one who thought this game was pretty half-assed.
