I wanted to find out what projectego popular opinion thought the best RPG on a currentgen console or PC was. I don't mean pure RPG, I mean any RPG.
Action, free-roaming, linear, MMO, doesn't matter. Just to be clear, it must be available for the XBOX 360, PlayStation 3, Wii or PC.
Being backwards compatible does not count; however a game that was re-released on disc format (not through a game marketplace) qualifies.
Nobody cares if you think Final Fantasy 7 is the greatest of all time, since they don't even make the console that runs it anymore. we're keeping this poll modern ladies and gents.

Mass Effect? Elder Scrolls? Fallout? Final Fantasy? Fable? Dragon Age? World of Warcraft?

throw nominees in here and we can make a poll for the definitive answer a week from now (Monday, April 11th).

Happy Nominating!

Current List:
  • Bioshock
  • Borderlands
  • Dragon Age: Origins
  • Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
  • Fable 2
  • Fable 3
  • Fallout 3
  • Fallout: New Vegas
  • Guild Wars
  • Lost Odyssey
  • Mass Effect
  • Mass Effect 2
  • Neverwinter Nights 2
  • Torchlight
  • The Witcher
  • World of Warcraft

I find myself continuously playing the Fallout series since there's so much to do and the constant release of creative community mods keeps it addictive and fresh. DA, Mass Effect, Oblivion, Guild Wars etc are all good, and though I don't play it anymore "Lost Odyssey" was a rather enjoyable game for the 360 that one should give a try (if you like the old PS1 Final Fantasies).

For those who loved the Shenmue series on Dreamcast, then I'd recommend checking out SEGA's Yakuza 3 & 4, it's the closest thing you'll get to a next-gen Shenmue as it stands.

Currently, I have my sights locked on the upcoming releases of The Witcher 2 and Skyrim.

Fallout 3 has to be one of my favourite RPG titles of all time. Close behind is Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2, both rather epic. Oblivion is up there too, but that's an obvious one.

Anyhoo, to be clear my 'nominations' are Fallout 3, Dragon Age: Origins and Mass Effect 2. :)

Fable: tlc

TLC wouldn't qualify since it's on the original Xbox and not the 360.

However, I would like to nominate Fable as a series. If this can't be done (either because it includes TLC, which is not a current gen game, or because you want a specific game title instead of a series), then I'll just nominate Fable 3.

Mass Effect, Fallout, Dragon Age: Origins (not 2, because it sucks completely), Oblivion, The Witcher, Borderlands, and Bioshock.

Mass Effect 2 (which coincidentally has new DLC out. GET ON IT) and Oblivion spring to mind.

EDIT: And Fallout NV, but it's basically an Oblivion mod.

How would one count if a PC game is "next-gen" or not? Anyhow, I'd like to mention an obscure title called Torchlight.

Plays very much like Diablo with randomized dungeons and such, and indeed people involved in the Diablo series are behind it. It has a delightful steampunk feel to it as well.

I got Torchlight when it came out for PC. <3 Great game.

I kinda wanna get it for Xbox just because you can have an iguana for a pet. O_O

Continuing on this trail of thought; Diablo III.

Love it? Hate it? Expectations?

How come there's Fable III but not Fable II?
I also love Demon's Souls.

Try Vindictus for a good free MMORPG. Only problem is it's a Nexon game....

Fallout New Vegas. A lot closer to the original Fallouts, and certainly a lot better than Fallout 3.

WHAT WHAT! BLASPHAMEY! Fallout 3 is a mile better in my opinion, with all the bugs in new Vegas not as many quests not as many random encounters characters were not as good nor was the environment. Ide still say Fallout 3 was miles better than vegas in every way but the companion wheel.

Really? More Quests?
Fallout 3: At the most 100 quests quests, about 48 of which are marked. Vanilla FO3 has only 31 marked quests.
Fallout New vegas: 131 quests, about 90 of which are marked.

The characters in my opinion were more diverse in NV. The characters in fallout 3 were either good or bad, rarely ever a person who was neutral. Fallout New Vegas had good people doing evils for the greater good, Good Factions with some bad elements or the other way around, and had the player character doing bad things for good in the long term. The NCR in particular really made me question what they were doing, but they are good overall. And the enviroment was very good. I couldn't stand the never ending palette of green, brown and grey. The Mojave was much brighter, and was very good game version of Nevada using Gamebryo.

And lets not forget how Fallout 3 raped the canon of the franchise by ruining the Brotherhood of Steel, turning them into Naive Altruistic White Knights(no Pun intended), and threw in super mutants, who just came out of nowhere, whereas the original SMs needed the Master to set up the army, and said that Vault Tec had access to FEV, which was never explained how that happened. And lets not forget the white house, which had a Nuclear bomb dropped straight on it and was obliterated, but somehow the rest of DC was left standing. I've never seen anything that contradicts Canon so much in the Fallout Series.

Fallout 3 is a mediocre RPG at best, and the most terrible fallout game since FO: BOS/POS

I nominate Neverwinter Nights 2. I also think Everquest 2 (The original EverQuest changed MMORPG's as we know it, it also was the original MMORPG to get millions of players hooked. EverQuest 2 was the same, just with better graphics) and World of WarCraft (Even though I hate the game, but it has made a HUGE impact on the PC Gaming community and actually has created MORE PC Gamers because of it) should be mentioned.
