Actually, I think you'll find that Baseball is Cricket, only more... bad. I'm pretty sure cricket is the older of the two, both having originated from Rounders.
And there's two fundamental things that Cricket has over Baseball.
1: Bowling easily trumps pitching for entertainment value. There's about a thousand more ways to bowl, but means that it's more exciting, because you never know how the bowler is going to try and beat the batsman.
2: There are a lot more possibilities with batting, again adding to the entertainment value. Depending on what kind of ball is bowled, the batsman has a full 360 degrees of possibility, rather than the lowly (what looks to be around 100 degrees in baseball. Is that right?). The fact that the batsman doesn't have to hit the ball to stay in (again, depending on whether the bowler is bowling at the stumps) only means more excitement!
