360 HMDI Cable

I'm planning on upgrading my old Premium to a sexy Elite which comes with the choice of using HMDI by buying an extra cable to connect your 360 to the TV with. However, I'm totally clueless when it comes to these things(TV, DVD/What-have-you) and I'm wondering:

I've got a surround system (5 speakers, 1 subwoofer) currently plugged in. By buying this HMDI Cable will I mess things up so that I can no longer use it?

The HDMI Cable just goes into a HDMI port on your TV, looks pretty much like a regular scart socket but they are usually labelled.

HDMI is nothing special. Ive got a 360 Pro hooked up to a 42' plasma screen using HDMI and its no better.

Running it at 1080p? I noticed a huge difference upgrading mine to just 1080i from my last TV i was running it on & i dont even use HDMI.

The omnipotent Angry Video Game Nerd, Jame Rolfe swears by HDMI as well (http://www.cinemassacre.com/new/?p=4707#comments) and that's good enough for me!

So it really shouldn't change much regarding how the audio is plugged in, then?

Nope, I've got an HDMI cable for my PS3 and my audio system is fine. Less cords to worry about. ^_^

Take out the component/composite cables of your previous 360 and plug in the HDMI, then you're done.

Pretty much it really.

Its a friggin' scam they charge you €10.90 for the means of transferring your old data of your 20gb HDD to your new big fat 100(or something like that)gb HDD that comes with the Elite.... :(

Since having the old 20gb HDD means you're an oldtime and loyal customer they should just throw that damn cable with the Elite!

I agree and the cable should be included with the Elite. Could always see if there are any cheap ones on Ebay.

Re: 360 HMDI Cable

I used to use an HDMI on my Xbox... then I switched back to component... I notice no difference.

Re: 360 HMDI Cable

The Xbox only supports HDMI Audio 1.2 which may have a slightly noticeable difference from the 1.3 that Sony supports. From what I've read both are better than the component audio primarily because HDMI doesn't need to convert the digital signal to analog and back again the way component does.

Personally I don't think you will notice unless you have some seriously high end audio equipment whether it be turtle beach headset or a full home theater setup.

1.2 vs 1.3
