A Change in pet

Ok I love my dog but ever since they announced that we were going to have a dog in fable 2 my mind wondered at all the possibilities you could have. A cat a sparrow Balvarine (maybe across breed for this one) a Hobb ect, ect, ect. I think it would bring another element to the characters individuality also it would be awesome to see all these different animals next to their masters, Especially with their good or evil alignment. Let me know what you think.

Re: A Change in pet

I'm liking this idea... But, it would take a bit of time and programming to get each animal or pet to react uniquely to it's surroundings, quests, treasure etc... That is if they plan to do it again the the third fable... Other then that, I'm for it.

Re: A Change in pet

I Wanna Sparrow! (Nothing Else Constructive Here.)

Re: A Change in pet

I want option to play without pet...

Re: A Change in pet

Yeah but think about it - the main elements to the dog are:

1. To find treasure - you think a pet Hobbe would do this?

2. To assist in combat - ok, Balverines and Hobbes could, but sparrows? Nah.

3. To interact with the character - this one's obvious, PM constantly talked about the characters sense of emotion with the dog, you think you would get the same with a Hobbe or Balverine?

4. Any other pet would look pretty stupid, imagine a cat running after you in a city or something. It just doesn't really fit in Fable, IMHO.

Mind you, I was a tad sceptical about the dog before F2, but that turned out to be great.

Re: A Change in pet

I want a cat. Maybe items are in high places that would normally take a couple of minutes to get, send your cat up and he'll be back down in seconds.

Or a lion cub.

This.

I would so totally put the Lion King soundtrack on while playing it.

"I just can't wait to be King" seems to fit.

What about an eagle?

1. Can help find treasure by stealing shiny things from random people, y'know like birds do?

2: Can assist in combat by gouging the enemies eyes out with it's talon/beak.

3: Can be interactive (can summon it using a whistle & send it away at will, can progressively put time into training it, if you spend more time training it you could teach it new abilitys to assist in combat, etc.) Also could use it to send orders to the frontline in battles in Aurora. Could also have flying sequences in which the player can control the eagle (could be useful for activating dungeon switches or for reaching objectives that are out of the players reach.)

4 An eagle would make the player give of a larger impression of power & Majesty (eagles are often a sign of power, nobility, etc.)

Re: A Change in pet

i was thinking u no the way they have wolfs now what if the evil alment got u a wolf and good like a i dont no lol

Re: A Change in pet

i want a turtle. i would name him tortuga. he couldn't dig up treasure, i would have to carry him since he's so slow... but whenever an enemy attacked they'd get a tortuga to the face mario style.

tl;dr not many other animals really work with the game mechanics. dogs and cats are really the only animals that were used as pets commonly in the era. (not counting royalty with their exotic collections)

Re: A Change in pet

wolfs sounds awesome and so does eagles and i love the whole agile aspect to the cat all vallid and good points oh you can play without the dog you just let it get damaged in combat and run away =D you evil soul

Re: A Change in pet

ive always wanted an eagle or some sort of bird maybe a vulture if your evil

Re: A Change in pet

The question:

Will there be alternate pets other than the dog?

Answer:

NO.jpg

At least, that's what I think.

Re: A Change in pet

I think that having exotic pet/sidekicks is an element that belongs in a JRPG, and is not suited to the Fable universe.

Yeah i can see where you are coming from and i love my dog i just wanted to see if there were any other prefered animals and making your side pet overtly complex can change the feel and mood of the game. I love how basic fable is and its why no matter what PM says that may cause dissapointment in the final product it is still consitantly good fun and enjoyable

Re: A Change in pet

Perhaps I should refresh you all on a previously posted article. Strictly speaking, it is very likely - as the Ring System and other promised innovations beforehand, - to have been removed, tweaked or perhaps unrelated to what we currently understand as "pet companion," and more of "world filler" or "interactive immersion."

Eurogamer: remember that we asked whether one of the innovations include a cat or a parrot?

Peter Molyneux: Yes. We added a cat to play even a parrot.

Quoted from hobbes_pwn's informative thread entitled "[INTERVIEW] Eurogame (Czech) talk to PM (Lots of hints dropped)," posted on 05-12-2010.

Link : http://forums.projectego.net/interview-eurogame-czech-talk-pm-lots-hints-dropped-24001/

As a personal comment, if Peter Molyneux's response is still valid, the wording on his answer is broad enough to branch out to serveral possibilities. Perhaps the cat and parrot can be "played with" in the GUI, or part of a "Limited-AI" beauty package to make personages who complained about Roleplaying Limitations ecstatic. I'll leave it at that.
