Yeah but think about it - the main elements to the dog are:

1. To find treasure - you think a pet Hobbe would do this?

2. To assist in combat - ok, Balverines and Hobbes could, but sparrows? Nah.

3. To interact with the character - this one's obvious, PM constantly talked about the characters sense of emotion with the dog, you think you would get the same with a Hobbe or Balverine?

4. Any other pet would look pretty stupid, imagine a cat running after you in a city or something. It just doesn't really fit in Fable, IMHO.

Mind you, I was a tad sceptical about the dog before F2, but that turned out to be great.

Thank You! That's My Exact Thoughts!! +rep

Re: A Change in pet

No a dog has more of an emotional effect than a bird or hobbe even when it comes to cats they are just to distant and useless.

What about an eagle?

1. Can help find treasure by stealing shiny things from random people, y'know like birds do?

2: Can assist in combat by gouging the enemies eyes out with it's talon/beak.

3: Can be interactive (can summon it using a whistle & send it away at will, can progressively put time into training it, if you spend more time training it you could teach it new abilitys to assist in combat, etc.) Also could use it to send orders to the frontline in battles in Aurora. Could also have flying sequences in which the player can control the eagle (could be useful for activating dungeon switches or for reaching objectives that are out of the players reach.)

4 An eagle would make the player give of a larger impression of power & Majesty (eagles are often a sign of power, nobility, etc.)

I completely agree with this.. Though I know it won't happen. An Eagle would definitely give you a stronger feeling of power as well as nobility.

Re: A Change in pet

Tigers should go live in JRPGs, and not Fable RPGs.

Thats plausible, unlikely but plausible. Some rulers did own tigers, would have to be carefull though, otherwise it might just decide to maul you to death when it gets hungry lol.

i want a turtle. i would name him tortuga. he couldn't dig up treasure, i would have to carry him since he's so slow... but whenever an enemy attacked they'd get a tortuga to the face mario style.

tl;dr not many other animals really work with the game mechanics. dogs and cats are really the only animals that were used as pets commonly in the era. (not counting royalty with their exotic collections)
are u a zombie "i like TURTLES"

how would all those sorry bandits feel look at me and my pet muhahahahaha youu all die of being petrafied Over powered a little and how about all those little bunnys =D

Re: A Change in pet

I wouldn't mind more types of pets to choose, if the Wolf is considered another breed of dog, it could be implemented through the breed changer, it would be awesome to have the breeds have different aspects/stats, i would think that the "Good" wolf would be pure white and the "Evil" would be pure black, no real texture almost like a black blot to give it that sense of Evil...

Lol, tiger... would never ever fit in fable but the idea is a win.

I want a bunch of sugar glider squirrels that I can hide in my pocket and then have them all jump out and surprise attack somebody! It would be so epic...
I think I would be tempted to sick them on random villagers though.

Perhaps I should refresh you all on a previously posted article. Strictly speaking, it is very likely - as the Ring System and other promised innovations beforehand, - to have been removed, tweaked or perhaps unrelated to what we currently understand as "pet companion," and more of "world filler" or "interactive immersion."

Quoted from hobbes_pwn's informative thread entitled "[INTERVIEW] Eurogame (Czech) talk to PM (Lots of hints dropped)," posted on 05-12-2010.

As a personal comment, if Peter Molyneux's response is still valid, the wording on his answer is broad enough to branch out to serveral possibilities. Perhaps the cat and parrot can be "played with" in the GUI, or part of a "Limited-AI" beauty package to make personages who complained about Roleplaying Limitations ecstatic. I'll leave it at that.

Nice find, Lady. Can't believe no one has quoted this yet. Isn't this all the proof we need? Granted, it doesn't specify whether or not you'll be able to take them on your travels - which I doubt - but I'm guessing they'll hang out in your castle or something.
