First, I'd like to say I'm new to these forums and I like this place a lot :). Way back in 2004 when Fable was first released, my brother bought the game for his XBOX and I always loved to watch him play since I love RPG's (mostly Japanese ones, though). Now, my interest in Fable is back on and I'm REALLY looking forward to buying Fables II and III, but first, I have some questions about both of them.

For BOTH Fables II and III:
1) About how long does it take to beat Fable II with just the main story (not rushing, though).

2) How many hours can distractions and sidequests add onto the game? Are they worth doing? If so, why?

3) Is the story interesting, engaging, exciting or just good in general? What would you rate it out of 10 and why?

4) How many pre-rendered CG cutscenes does each game have? Can you give a list for each game? (Example from the game Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII * spoilers for the game*- 1. Opening 2. Angeal saves Zack from Sephiroth during training 3. The village of Banora is destroyed 4. Sephiroth vs. Genesis and Angeal at the Junon Canon, etc.)

5) Is there a lot of replay value? Is it really worth playing through again to see the changes from being good to being evil?

Again, can you give a separate answer for each Fable? PLEASE answer in the best way you can. I would love some persuasion to buy the games and become an official fan of Fable :)

Thanks to whoever responds!

Just main story? It takes me about 6-8 hours.

40+, I myself collect and do absolutely everything each Fable has to offer, so my OCD is happy...

3) Is the story interesting, engaging, exciting or just good in general? What would you rate it out of 10 and why?
It's one of the richest lores in the current market, but don't go and assume it's an Elder Scrolls.
9/10, it's easy to understand yet very deep.

Like, 3 on Fable II and like, 5 in III

Yes and yes.

Please respond :/

The thread was only open for about a half hour; you won't get responses that fast. Just be patient.

1) About how long does it take to beat Fable II with just the main story (not rushing, though).

I wouldn't know the amount of time it would take because I don't tend to pay attention to that, but rest assured that neither game is too short.

3) Is the story interesting, engaging, exciting or just good in general? What would you rate it out of 10 and why?

For Fable 2, the story wasn't incredible, but it was good enough. There weren't any flaws or unreasonable things happening, it was just a little boring. The antagonist was bad, and there weren't really any exciting twists or turns. I would give it a 6/10. Although, everything else about the game more than makes up for a mediocre story.

Fable 3's story is much better. It's much more exciting, the characters are way cooler and more interesting, and you feel much more connected to the storyline and the world. I would give it an 8/10.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Tyrant Lord. :steve: What he said made me think a little bit more about the storylines of Fable. If we add lore, history, background, etc. into the equation, it's easily a 9/10 for both of them like he said.

4) How many pre-rendered CG cutscenes does each game have?

Not many. I would say there's approximately five for each game. I can't remember each individual one right now though.

5) Is there a lot of replay value? Is it really worth playing through again to see the changes from being good to being evil?

YES! Replay value and customization are the best things about Fable. The differences between being good and evil can be enough to play through it again, but it's the fact that Fable has extremely vast customization options that you would want to go through the game more than just twice. Depending on what you wear, what hairstyles and facial hair you have, what weapons you use, how you level up, which alignment you choose, etc., you could be a completely different character every single time you play through the game. This goes for both Fable 2 and Fable 3.

plus I don't even have an XBOX. It's been looong gone, and it's always been my brother's.

It works on the 360 too, if you have XBL.
Get it, I still remember the day I got it :)

Hey man welcome to our humble abode!

1) I too am not too sure on the time taken but I'd say about 10 hours for Fable 2 if you consider going around and fooling about in between quests and easily 15 or so hours on Fable 3, not including the multitude of side-quests and other things you could do.

2) Side quests for Fable 2 are not that memorable if I can er... remember correctly. May be mistaken since its been while since I played it... For Fable 3, however, the side quests are amazingly diverse and interesting. You have everything from finding books around Albion to finding lost children in caves. To keep the surprise and the humour intact, I will just say that the side-quests not only offer you "experience" or whatever, they give you a great time with all the humour and sometimes, mystery involved.

3) The story for Fable 2 has recieved... ambivalent receptions. Some think its a great, almost theatrical story whereas others simply hate it. I for one, enjoyed the story rather well. The best part about Fable 2 was the simplicity in the story with its fair share of depth. Its not a mindbogling "moving to the future, but the future is the present and the not so future becomes the past" kind of story, neither is it a Final Fantasy with a set "adventure" and 15 hours of farming before being able to beat a final boss or something.
The story for 3 however, is definitely more alive, no small part due to the awesome voice work and a greater atmospheric look and feel to the whole game in general. The plot, on paper, may seem unimpressive but if you keep your mind open, it's a very good storyline with its fair share of twists and turns. Also, don't spoil the game for yourself in these forums. It'll ruin your game. =P

4) About 5 each like the others have said.

5) I would honestly say that at this point, both games have replay value for different reasons. In Fable 2, it was fun to replay it because of some quests you can only get in the story that are pretty awesome to do. Also, the essential play-as-good vs play-as-evil replay value is, as with all fable games, always there. Furthermore, trying to complete the game with different skill sets is extremely enjoyable.
For Fable 3, the replay value though due to the aforementioned reasons, is even greater to some extent. For some reason, Lionhead's choice to disallow multiple saves per hero means that you cannot "go back" on your decisions and thus, for myself, making me want to play the game again just to do it differently. I wont put the criticism here though as there might be spoilers... =P

Anyway, all in all, don't expect Fable to be an Elder Scrolls kind of RPG where you spend 1 hour making your character, neither should you treat it like a Final Fantasy game and look out for the story. As Stephen Fry said in the Dev Diary, "dont try to second guess the game" and just do what you would do in the first run through (for Fable 3 and 2). After that, you can try different ways of playing it again.

Thanks, guys! I just have a question, though. Can you guys give a list of what happens in each CG cutscene in Fable II and Fable III, just like the sample I mentioned in Question 4? (Although if it has major spoilers, try to make the description as little spoilerific as possible) It would be GREATLY appreciated :)

Guys please answer, it's my very last question!

How are we supposed to tell you what happens in cutscenes without spoiling it? :/

I cant remember for Fable 2... But I remember one where you are entering the er... _____ and another where you exit the ____ after killing the _____... I cant remember the others.
For Fable 3, theres the starting one where the chicken rebel (=D) makes his stand, the one where Logan makes his "this is my Albion speech", the one where you are ____ on a ____ as you exit ____ to get to ____ and if I'm not mistaken, the last one is when your ____ is ____ by the ____.
Yea.. It's hard to say what actually happens without giving that many spoilers.
