Hey guys, I was just cruising my local Occupy Melbourne Facebook page and saw this video. It made me sick a little bit, and I just want to help get the word out that this is how the police are acting in our city.

The backstory is that they've been camping in the local gardens around the city, and the cops have been authorised to remove camping gear (because there are apparantly laws against camping in public parks), which I guess is fair enough. The protesters came up with the hilarious idea of wearing the tents as clothes, so that they can't really be removed (observable here). But now the cops have been authorised to remove them, whether or not the people wearing them are naked underneath. Agree with the protests or not, no one should be treated like that, let alone by the police.

TL;DR: Cops in Melbourne have been authorised to forcibly strip people naked (or near enough) if they're standing in a park, and that makes Arseface angry.

I also wanted to use this thread as an outlet for anyone wanting to share similar news of your local Occupy Protest if there's anything similar happening (which hopefully there isn't).

"Can you please call the cops?"

How did she miss the word "Police" in big bold letters all over their backs?

Truly though, that's pretty damn sad. I'm more bothered by the fact the officers showed no emotion nor hesitation when doing it, not a care in the world.

Apparantly it was decreed that cops would be handing out blue robes to people in that situation, but people have been saying that that hasn't happened. The cops in the video just took the tent and walked off like that was the end of it.

If they had given her something else to wear I wouldn't have been so bothered, but they didn't.. Don't understand why.

It's just wrong, if I were to disrobe a woman I'd at least show the nice lady some love (and then some).

The funny thing is that their intent is to hinder these protests, but stuff like this is only going to fuel it.

When I see sh*t like this, I just get so enraged that I don't even want to think about sitting here and calmly articulating some thoughts on the matter, so for now, at the risk of sounding juvenile, I'll just say this: f*ck the police!

More will follow.

If nothing else these protests have gone to show how much freedom people have and how much local governments and law enforcement in some places are full of *it*. I've seen plenty of videos like this, but the most shocking ones usually do come from Melbourne. Your police forces have some pretty wild things they can get away with.

The Occupy protest in my home city kind of fell apart. It got shut down after the homeless flocked there for free food and a lot of drug activity popped up. With two heroin overdoses they can justify an eviction in my book. By the time it all happened the protest had mostly deteriorated into the two above activities. Everyone I talked to when I was visiting a few weeks ago agreed it had fallen into disrepair and deserved to get the banhammer.

Unfortunately, that's what happened with San Francisco (which is why I didn't end up going), but it's still going on. The real Bay Area protests are in Oakland. A friend of mine was there for a few days at one point, so I'm going to see if I can go over there with him again while I'm at home for winter break. I also saw this video on the Occupy Oakland website:

I hope that takes off, and I hope it lasts until I can get there.

That's really sick man, I hope they manage to pull that off. It will send a strong as **** message to the 1%.

And is it just me, or does anyone else not love the use of the terms "99%" and "1%"?

No one will argue with me when I say the naked body is a beautiful thing(hurr), but that sort of forceful, almost inhumane behaviour from police officers is nothing short of utterly disgusting.

Between the spraying, being arrested for Peaceful protest (Which is allowed in our constitution) the improper treatment of protesters, and the curfews that I am starting to see pop up, I feel like we are slowly turning into a police state.

Well, I don't absolutely love those terms or anything, but it helps people to understand what the protests are about, which I think is really important since I've heard numerous people asking, "What are these occupy protests for anyway?"

True, but it just bothers me a bit that they're claiming to represent 99% of the people.

Damn peace officers.

I guess that's what happens when you play hardball.

The cops here in the states are starting to beat people in some instances.

Atleast everyone is finally coming together on these matters, better late then never they say. Idk what these 99% are protesting about though:blink:

1. What are these protests all about?

2. That video is disgusting, I've never liked the way police control things in any country.

It's basically protesting corporate greed, income inequality and corruption, and the promotion of actual democracy, empathy and the protection of human rights.

There is a group here in Liverpool doing it I walk pass them everyday, as opposing to modern Liverpool culture these protesters are very calm and no violence has struck yet.

How ever they do have quite humorous signs, one stated

'y u no occupy Liverpool? with the y u no guy on it.

The one in my city was shut down. Can't blame them either. They weren't doing anything and they were just ****ting all over Olympic Plaza. Which is kind of gross. And another one was disbanded because it was mainly homeless people looking for free food. And there was drugs there. No biggy.
