Earlier today it was reported that Activision had closed down UK studio Bizarre Creations (creators of Project Gotham, Blur & 007: Blood Stone) with a loss of 200+ jobs. However Activision have responded with the following statement:
Activison said:Over the past three years since our purchase of Bizarre Creations, the fundamentals of the racing genre have changed significantly. Although we made a substantial investment in creating a new IP, Blur, it did not find a commercial audience.
Activison said:Bizarre is a very talented team of developers, however, because of the broader economic factors impacting the market, we are exploring our options regarding the future of the studio, including a potential sale of the business.
Reminds me what EA did many years ago which such companies like Westwood Studios (gone but never forgotten!) So what could the future hold for Bizarre Creations and have Activision started to cull the development studios they own?
