Former star of Spartacus, Andy Whitfield, passed away yesterday. He had been diagnosed with cancer over a year ago when Starz began searching for his replacement and chose to air Gods of the Arena instead of continuing the story of Season 1.

Such a shame, he was brilliant in Spartacus and i think the role could have lifted his career to new heights. Seemed to be such a genuine guy too, i hope the series continues after the next season to pay homage to what he helped create. As it was his portrayal that first brought the show so many fans. RIP Andy Whitfield

Not the kind of news I was expecting to see this morning. His portrayal of Spartacus I found to be well executed in drawing in emotion, it's not often I find myself pulling for the main hero, but he ended up being the primary reason for me being interested in the show. The show is never going to be the same again without him, and it's a shame we won't get to see what more he could have become beyond the role of Spartacus.

I feel bad for his children who will have to continue growing up at such a young age without him by their side.

Just heard about this, ****es me off he was such a good actor in Spartacus and other films including my personal fav Gabriel, where Andy plays the archangel Gabriel in purgatory if any of you haven't seen it I most heartily recommend it.

R.I.P Andy, also trivia Andy sent me a friend request on myspace earlier this year. :blink:

I don't know who this is, and I haven't seen the show everyone's talking about, but cancer should just get cancer and die.

This actually made me really sad. I've never seen Spartacus, but reading about all of this was pretty depressing.
We must destroy cancer.
