Apple Computers

I'm ordering a MacBook online within the next few days and I was curious if anyone else here uses a Mac? I really love them but I've been using Windows primarily. We did use Apple computers when I was in elementary school though. I'm really excited/anxious for my computer and I figured talking about it here would help subside my excitement enough to where I can stop annoying my friends! :P

Re: Apple Computers

My only experience with Macs is the reeealy dodgy ones we had in primary school. I remember when we got our first Windows PCs. They were the shiznit.

Re: Apple Computers

I haven't used a mac since the 1980's or thereabouts...but it won't be too tricky to pick it up once you get started.

I preferred Mac's, to be honest - seemed to have a cleaner interface IMO...

Re: Apple Computers

Sadly, to my recollection, I've never used a Mac but recently I developed a strong desire to buy a MacBook Pro. I think they look great and I'd love to check out the new Mac OS X Leopard operating system.

Congrats on purchasing your first, MacBook, Amanda!I'm really jealous now. :P

Well, I found out that I have to wait a few months until I get it but hopefully only one or two! :P I've used my friends MacBook Pro and it's great. He's done very well with it. I would definitely recommend one. The difference is impeccable.

Re: Apple Computers

Im thinking of getting a mac... mostly because it got quite the advantage when it comes to design and 3D rendering...

And im starting the feel that's what i'll be doing for a long time ahead...

Back when I considered becoming a Graphic Designer I planned on getting one for that but even with my major being Criminal Justice now, I wouldn't dream of buying a Windows laptop. I definitely need something more reliable.

No more adware, spyware, and virus protection programs! :P

Im more looking forward to the INSANE amount of ram, 32 Gb... atleast the stationary ones, but im kinda getting used to having a laptop since we got them in school.

But 32gig at max... its insane

Interesting article about the mac experience, from a windows-user point of view: AnandTech: A Month with a Mac: A Die-Hard PC User's Perspective

I use a macbook when I'm @ work, and I must say; it's more stable and easier to multitask on os x. Downside is that on windows there are so many good freeware and open source applications that you don't get on a mac...
But the Macbook is a very nice computer to work on, great keyboard, screen and exellent battery.

I've heard of this new program called Boot Camp which partitions your hard drive and lets you run Windows XP/Vista (or whatever) off of your Mac so you could always play your games that you have for Windows and whatever other programs you like on your Mac. I've considered using it for games.

That's right plus PC Mag said that the Mac run Windows better than any PC on the market
You could also run Parallels which runs Windows as a virtual enviroment.

What exactly is a virtual environment?

Re: Apple Computers

Thanks OldBoy I missed that question.

Re: Apple Computers

Did you order your MacBook in the end, Amanda? If so, did you go for one of the new MacBook Pro models?

Re: Apple Computers

I haven't ordered it yet but I have been considering whether or not I should purchase a refurbished (with more HD space, etc.) or a new one. I've decided to purchase a new model even though they are the same price. I feel like if I want to buy something so expensive I want to get a brand new one rather than a refurbished one. I should be ordering it sometime in April.

Re: Apple Computers

Not meaning to bump or post twice in a row but I thought I would let you all know that I ordered my MacBook and it should be here tomorrow! I'm very excited, especially that it will be here before I leave for spring break. I'll let you all know how I much I like it! :)

Yeah have to fill us in on what you like about it and how it is.

Re: Apple Computers

Cool, I prefer Windows myself though, never really got into Mac. Hope you have fun with it, now onto scrounging for some coin to buy a new graphics card...
