Bad Company 2 going HAYWIRE!

March 8, 2010 - A persistent server outage that started late Friday night has started to frustrate many Battlefield: Bad Company 2 players through the weekend, causing many to disconnect from multiplayer games, or simply not connect at all.

When a fix was thought to be in place, the servers took another hit, causing another outage that impacted all three versions.

Associate Producer at developer DICE Gordon Van Dyke posted an update on the official blog yesterday saying the traffic load over this past weekend was bigger than they anticipated.

"All teams are actively engaged in diagnosis and remediation. We are adding additional services to alleviate load," he wrote. "Despite having a major infrastructure in place, the peak traffic this weekend has been huge, 400% higher than any other Battlefield's peak simultaneous users. The teams will continue to monitor the services closely."

"We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and will provide further updates on the latest developments as they are relevant."

An update for the PlayStation 3 version is currently getting approved by Sony and should go live later today, allowing users access to the in-game store and VIP content. Both the Xbox 360 and PC versions will not be receiving client updates today.

DICE says they'll continue to monitor the situation and hope to have these problems sorted out soon enough.

"We are aware of a number of remaining disconnect issues on PC and we have released the "R5" server to hosts yesterday to address some of the disconnects," Van Dyke added. "We are continuing to work on the remaining disconnect issues to have a solution as fast as possible as well as looking into reports of other issues raised on the forums for consoles"

Back in June, Battlefield 1943, another DICE title for Xbox LIVE and PlayStation Network, suffered similar server outages, as the developer was again unprepared for the title's popularity.

Re: Bad Company 2 going HAYWIRE!

The demand was so high the servers all crashed out, its lots of the players jumping from Modern Warfare 2 also that added to the peak. Its been fixed now from what i heard and there is some maintenance ongoing. I havent played any multiplayer yet but be good if the issues are fixed before i hop online. At least the issues were identified and being worked on really quickly and a statement was released informing people of the problem fast.

Sounds like its doing pretty well then?

Re: Bad Company 2 going HAYWIRE!

 I figured that was the problem. Same thing happened when I got 1943. It is kind of annoying, but it let me have a break from the game. But I was having a lot better luck yesterday. Got into some pretty good games with minimal lag.

Yeah, number 1 in the game charts and its online activity has sky rocketed.

Re: Bad Company 2 going HAYWIRE!

I want to get it but my schedule only allows one game until Late June/Early July, and that is FFXIII

And another awesome thing is that ranking up is uber hard and takes a long freakin' time. Now I actually feel like im earning things and not just slowly reaching the top to repeat again.
