they take 5 or so years to make the first game, then 2 years for the second.

Maybe it's just me being me, but sequels without major time put into tweaking the game engine rarely 'wow' me. i'd hope for some new physics here, some re-imagined feature there, along with the entirely new features of course. gameplay experience is about all borderlands offers, so i'd hope those two years were spent making the gameplay as fun as possible and not *ahem* writing the """"""""""""""""story"""""""""""""""" of the sequel.The engine is already there for a sequel and they dont have to build it from the ground up so they never take as long to develop.
