Call of Duty World at War Co-Op Details

Well at first after hearing that the newest Call Of Duty was going back to the WWII setting of old i lost interest. However with these new details emerging im starting to get a sniff of interest back again. Maybe Treyarch can pull it out of the bag this time and not be massively overshadowed by the excellent COD titles created by Infinity Ward. Im not overly optimistic about that but we can always hope that they dont soil the series with the next title.

The first details of Call of Duty: World at War have been revealed, plucked straight from the pages of Xbox 360: The Official Magazine (#35), which is dropping through subscribers' letterboxes right now.

The fifth game in the CoD series, which is being developed by CoD3 studio Treyarch, ditches the number subtitle and expectedly returns to WWII - but the developer stresses it's not the same theatre we've seen a million times before.

It all takes place in the Pacific theatre (and partially in Russia's advance into Berlin) says OXM, which all in all was a much grittier and darker conflict that the one in muddy Belgium fields.

Treyarch has had a full extra year over CoD3's development to make World at War - and it's using the excellent CoD4 engine, which is plenty of reason to be excited.

"This is a scarier Call of Duty than we've ever seen," Treyarch head Mark Lamir says in the mag.

To help simulate the Japanese's different style of warfare, Treyarch has completely re-tinkered the enemy AI in World at War. Instead of taking cover and flanking in traditional European battle strategies, the Japanese hide in trees, sneak through the overgrowth and scrabble, katana in hand in violent suicide attacks.

"We figured out early that the Imperial Japanese fought in a different way that was full of suspense," creative lead Rich Farrelly tells OXM. "From that point we started to skew the game in that direction."

Excitingly, for the first time in Call of Duty's campaign 4-player co-op is supported over Xbox Live - and it supports meta game perks as in CoD4's excellent online mode.

When they said Theater i dont think they were referring to a feature they were referring to the actual military term.

Theater (military - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)

Thanks, DD! You have single-handedly restored my faith in Call of Duty 5! I felt the same way when I heard that, even after the success of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Treyarch still decided to go down the World War 2 route - which has been totally done to death - for Call of Duty 5.

But it's really good to hear that CoD5 will feature co-op play. EVERY FPS game should have it, in my opinion. Good move, Treyarch. I might just buy your game, yet!

Apparently it was being made along side COD 4, and they didnt realise how popular the new Modern Warfare style would be (thats the excuse they are using). I think that Treyarch are just trying to go back to WWII to redeem their other titles and not just opt for Modern Warfare like Infinity Ward. Otherwise they would be accused of just copying them and riding on the success of COD 4. I just hope that Treyarch sort out the online servers and such this time, as the lag, servers, and matchmaking for COD 3 on 360 was abysmal.

oh gosh.... now all they need to do is add 6x, 12x and 6/12x scopes and RSV2's level of customization (the er... armour) and ill be content! man if only they did that to COD4 :]
