Cancelling a subscription

Ok, so have a little problem - I need to cancel an XBOX Live month-to-month subscription and I can't do it. There is no facility for this either online or via the dashboard and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas.

Do I have to ring Xbox Support?

And before some wannabe smartass tells me Google is my friend, I have already had a good look around the net and can't find any info other than call suport and they'll take as long as they feel like to cancel your subscription. If that's the only option then so be it but if anyone knows a better way, I'd love to hear it.

Re: Cancelling a subscription

Ack, I remember being able to do it from the old pre-NXE dashboard. But I'm at school so I cant check for you. If no one tells you by the time I get home, I'll check it out on my Xbox.

Re: Cancelling a subscription

If I recall correctly, you have to remove the "payment method" or something similar over at the XBL website profile management thingiemajigger.

Re: Cancelling a subscription

Yeah, I tried that but in order to remove a credit card you need to have no active subscriptions at the time - and unfortunately with a month-to-month subscription it's counted as active. You can't cancel it, that I can see, nor can you set it to turn off the automatic renewal, which is stupid.

If ringing is the only option I think Microsoft are missing some brain cells...

Actually they're just being intentionally complicated. Too many subscription-based services willfully make it a PITA to cancel it these days. :getlost:

Re: Cancelling a subscription

Did you try google, Sharon?

... just kidding lol.

There should be an option to turn off the Automatic Renewal on www.xbox.com after you sign into your account. To cancel it altogether, calling up Microsoft is unfortunately the only way.

Re: Cancelling a subscription

I don't even think you can turn off automatic renewal, but I am probably wrong.

Other than that ringing is the only way, 'mafraid. It's a *****, ye, but it pays off. Or does it?

I shall leave you contemplating that question...

Doesn't look like turning off automatic renewal is an option - I checked a few threads on some other forums and tried their tricks but apparently it's going to be a phone up job.

This is making me really not like Microsoft right now...

had the same problem wanted to cancel credit card payments in favour of xbox live cards, you have to call them up and explain this, hopefully if u get a helpful asian guy who knows what hes doing it shud only take 10-15 mins maybe less.

Id email them or something rather than waste time and money on phonecalls.

Re: Cancelling a subscription

I know I'm a bit late, but yeah, I had the same problem. Assholes don't let you do it online or from the console, and when I e-mailed them they went, "oh, you need to call us." So yeah, pick up a phone. On the other hand, I don't remember it being that hard once I got hold of them.

Royal pain in the ass. Which is part of the reason I haven't renewed my gold subscription since I cancelled it. Waste my damn money on a stupid pointless luxury item, and then have to go to that much trouble to stop them taking money from my account?
