Civillian Displacement in Samarkand

Do you think it would be racist?

Re: Civillian Displacement in Samarkand

How could it be racist?

Re: Civillian Displacement in Samarkand

I think he means bringing people from Samarkand to Albion. He's asking if you think it's too similar to Africans being taken from their homes and being forced into slavery elsewhere.

Re: Civillian Displacement in Samarkand

I doubt that would happen. By the sounds of things, Samarkand could wipe the floor with Albion.

Re: Civillian Displacement in Samarkand

well seeing as slavery was outlawed before the victorian era which fable II seems to be set in, so it wouldn't be in Fable III.

And no its not racist. If lionhead had events in the game or quests that had bad things happen to black people or slaves then it would be racist.

Re: Civillian Displacement in Samarkand

^^ that makes no sense.

If there was black slaves in fable III I would personally considered it Racist.

Re: Civillian Displacement in Samarkand

the whole idea of having slavery in samarkand is pretty much racist, as seeing as the people who live there are black as seen with thunder, whisper and garth, it seems that people are immediately assuming that they are some third world country who have slaves.

In the fable universe samarkand invented katanas and gunpowder so they could be more advanced than albion.

Re: Civillian Displacement in Samarkand

Are we saying that Lionhead would be racist for depicting a certain race as a slave caste?

That's stupid.

Re: Civillian Displacement in Samarkand

Well black people have been portrayed as slaves in movies, books and other media, and they haven't been called racist. Unless the slaves in the game were dumb, ugly, and had a fetish for voodoo then it would be racist. And for those who don't understand its a very racist stereotype of a black slave. Nobody today has this view but black people would still find it offensive. Any Black members can correct me if I'm wrong.

Being from Australia, I definitely understand what a racist stereotype is (if you've been following the news, you'd know that blackface is still alive and well in Australia *sarcastic laughter*)

Gunpowder and Katanas...

Samarkand represents Asia and the all of the East, I believe.

Re: Civillian Displacement in Samarkand

^It's more of just an African-Asian mix.

Re: Civillian Displacement in Samarkand

And it makes me wonder...

Where's Russia?

Re: Civillian Displacement in Samarkand

^In our universe, not Fable's.

But on a more serious note, they've only introduced two regions, there are probably many more that Lionhead hasn't even thought of yet. Not to mention the possibility of Aurora being a new region, which is what I think will happen.

Except that the Samarkandian people are black, and have African accents.

I hadn't thought of that Aurora link... +rep

...my thoughts exactly.

they just threw dark skin on everybody so that they covered the rest of the most general races.

Re: Civillian Displacement in Samarkand

I don't see why it has to represent anywhere. Can't it just be a completely fictional world, without these different links to the real Earth?

How do you get the idea Samarkand is Asian?
Where did you read katanas are from there?

The weapon descriptions from Fable Tlc and Fable II. And seeing as in the real world asia was the home of gunpowder and gunpowder cam from samarkand in the fableverse then it makes sense to see samarkand to be a mix of asia and africa.

Re: Civillian Displacement in Samarkand

That's the problem with the whole black situation.

White slaves - Perfectly fine.
Black slaves - Omg racist!

No. Let the game be. Stop putting weird ideas into peoples heads and leave the real world out of it. Last time I checked, it may be set in similar eras but last time I checked, Earth doesn't have a spire that has a sh*t load of magic in it.
