As someone who prides himself on the knowledge and enjoyment of classic rock guitarists, I have to say I really wasn't that impressed with Freebird.

Freebird is like The Beatles - like them or not, you have to respect the fame surrounding it/them. :lol:

I don't respect anything just for being famous. Otherwise I'd respect Paris Hilton, and I wouldn't be able to live with myself.

I respect the Beatles because I thoroughly enjoy their music, and I respect the impact they had on all the music that came after them.

I think Free Bird, whilst not a bad song, is pretty pedestrian. I can't see what, if any, impact it had on the music scene, which is the only other thing I can think of to respect a song for aside from the song itself.

Fame =/= infamy.
She is not famous, she is infamous.

That depends on your point of view. Believe it or not, there are some people who idolise her and respect her.

And besides, I think Tsuyu's use of the word covered both definitions based on the context.

Exactly. Even if you think their music was/is ****, you have to respect them for how huge they were.

I really don't know much about the context surrounding the song, but you are right. I do respect them for the level of fame they earned.

There's a difference between being famous, and being influential. The Beatles had a stupidly huge fan base, as well as a stupidly huge effect on the music that came after. I can't say that Free Bird has been similarly influential.

gary moore = pure awesomesauce. brilliant guitarist, extremely influential, can shred, play melodic, just everything i love in a guitarist rolled into one irish package.
still got the blues is one of my fave guitar songs.

I never said that. But Freebird is a very famous, and good song, which similar to The Beatles should be respected although not to the same degree as The Beatles.

I've already said that I don't respect things, and nor do I think it's right to respect things, just for being well known. It's not that good a song in my opinion (not that I think it's a bad song. I come across as a Free Bird hater in this conversation). It's definitely a classic, but then so are a lot of bad songs (again, not saying Free Bird is one of them).

I'm coming across as way more serious than I feel about this.
