Democracy!

I believe that there should be no mods, but instead a Voting system.

If someone does something bad, as one might think, but someone else might think it wasn't bad, all the members should vote on punishment or no punishment, so there would be no mod corruption.

Blue Crow brought this up to me, and I agree.

Re: Democracy!

I like the idea, but it would take a bit long and who would vote? Guess and active members and how many votes would you need to get banned?

Re: Democracy!

Democracy takes time, just like after the revolutionary war.

It will take a while to find out how it will work but it will be worth it, so it will be fair for everyone.

I also think that we shouldn't ban someone right there, they should have a chance to defend there self.

Re: Democracy!

I beginning to like the way you think. 24 hour off line ban, during that you can vote, then comes defence.

But think how many people who break the rules? All we have is porn bots filling up our threads and galleries. I think we just more mods.

Re: Democracy!

The thing about mods is true but I believe we need more mods from different places, or have a Admin and mod from all different countries. (Sp?) But we should have a test to see who becomes the mod... Based on how active they are, How nice they are, etc.

Oh and the 24 hour thing: it shouldnt be 24 hours we should come to an agreement when him or her should be able to defend thereself after that we should ban him from his thread of judgement, or message him saying we are going to decide his judgement.

If anyone wants to know anythng about this Democracy thing, or have any questions about it ask Blue Crow, it might take him a while to reply though.

Re: Democracy!

This is an internet forum. It is in essence a democracy. This place is nothing without it's members, and it would be rampant with spam and pornography without Mods/Admins. Plus we don't have any malicious moderators or admins on here, so I don't care.

Sure, I'd like to vote on some things, but this is Steve's site. He pays for it, so it is up to him what happens here.

Re: Democracy!

I'm all for the "More Mods" proposal. Seeing as I spend a lot of time on, along with Triz, and Sephiroxas (who deserves a f*cking staff position anyways, I don't see why she doesn't have one) we could easily monitor the forums at all times of day. I'm usually the one to find the porn bots first (unforunately) and they always seem to be posted when no mods/admins are on. So the best I can do is report them, wait, and watch a bunch of noobs post in the porn thread.

Long story short: Give Sephiroxas a mother****ing staff position already!!!!

Re: Democracy!

Yeah, If not this, at least make more mods from other time-zones.

Re: Democracy!

I think that we all trust the admins and Tsuyu enough to let them have control. And the admins are the ones who pour in their own money to keep this site running and wonderful and everything, so it's only fair that they should have control.

And you never know, Sephi might not want a staff position. =] She strikes me as humble (but still awesome).

Re: Democracy!

No matter what Blue Crow thinks, there is no mod corruption here. Spend some time in a forum where the people in charge actually do miss-use their powers, kthxbai.

A system like suggested is actually more likely to be exploited by members who dislike each other; forming groups of other members and voting for a ban for another member they don't like ect ect.

Re: Democracy!

Yeah, I comletely agree with Tsuyu. If a dictator had ever existed who was actually kind to the people and did what was in the best interest of the nation, and the people (I'm sure there were more than a few monarchs who fit into this category), that is definitely better than a democracy. The only problems with that is that is completely unrealistic, except in the small scale, eg. this forum.

I honestly don't see a reason why we should change the way that this forum works. We actually used to have a Canadian mod, come to think of it, but that all ended badly.

Re: Democracy!

In case you guys didn't already know, Sephi has a mod position over at another of our forums - with her net access being limited at the moment she's unable to even post let alone much else, so it's all a bit of a moot point right now.

And yes, we had a Canadian mod largely because Steve has had a very bad time of it and last year was unable to be around as much due to personal reasons so we needed someone to step in. As this person was on the boards pretty much 24/7 they seemed ideal.

Groups create cliques which create discrimination which creates fighting which creates a wholly unpleasant situation for all and will ultimately turn this site into nothing better than a half-assed trolling site.

No offence guys, but Steve and Andy have put a hell of a lot into this place and it is insanely rare that regular members get banned. The people most recently who have experienced such decisions have been those who just could not take responsibility for the way they behaved and want to blame everyone else instead.

It has often been suggested within the staff forum that the members vote for the newest mod or whoever but the decision has always been that it would be unfair as people will obviously vote for their nearest and dearest without considering objectively whether that person is actually well suited for the job. Just coz a person is nice to you on MSN does not mean they are cut out for staff. Indeed, it could make them become unpopular as opposed to well-liked and then they end up losing out. Having to publicly reprimand a close friend on the boards for being out of line is not a nice job and if that person is not mature enough to take it well, then you may lose a friend.

As for voting on a ban, that is pointless and absurd. No offence, but think about it - like Tsuyu said, personal differences will come into play and people will be voted because such and such clique doesn't like them. Or someone gets told off and they get all their friends to vote for a ban of that person. It's not about so-called mod-corruption, it's about making sure this site stays being what it is supposed to be - a fan site for Fable. Not a free-for-all power trip for those who have been dying to get their own back.

Whenever a person is banned, it is discussed at length (if it's a member as opposed to just a spammer selling nokias) in the staff area and if all are agreed, the ban goes ahead. Otherwise, we choose another option. Tsuyu has shown on more than enough occasions that he has what it takes to be able to take the initiative and ban someone if need be without checking with the other staff first - but it is still always discussed.

Same if a mod or admin behaves out of line, it is talked about. Just coz you guys don't see everything doesn't mean it is ignored. If you know nothing about me by now then you should at least have picked up on the fact I'm a horrible person who will not let an issue lie if someone has been wrong but having said that, I am also quick to apologise to someone I have wronged on the boards. Anyone who I've clashed with here can attest to that if you don't believe me.

I agree, someone from a different time zone would be handy - but I have to stress the point again that we need to see firm evidence that the potential people can keep a lid on it most of the time, be fair and not go mental on the power of being able to pretty much do anything to anyone. Personally, I have to go on what I see here - I do not use MSN really, so actually it allows me to not get swayed by personal friendships when it comes to choosing mods. After all, the majority of people here will only know so and so via their forum persona so it's only fair that the way one behaves on here is the only margin by which they are assessed.

Blue Crow - is this all because you feel "victimised"? If this is more of a personal agenda rather than the good of the forum I would invite you to send me a PM to discuss what's really the matter here.

Re: Democracy!

Just imagine Steve, Andy and Sharon as the three Judges on something like American Idol or X Factor. They have to vote for the best person and it has to be a mutual decision.

Long - Story - Short: Tsuyu is the American Idol/ Has the X Factor.

Forums need the staff and authority style team to watch over things, as with voting and such comes corruption and unhand stuff most the time. Nothing to stop people trying to change peoples minds with PM's and such to persuade them into things. A community as a whole cant be full of unbiased people, thats why unbiased staff members are picked.

Just for the record id suggested Seph as a mod for some time and most of us are aware of that and she was made mod over at the Resident Evil forums. As i too thought an overseas Mod would be a good idea for timezones and such when Myself, Steve, Sharon or Tsuyu cant be here watching things. We have been discussing things like this from time to time in our staff section to see what we can do etc.
