Demon Doors

Hi Everyone,

Did you like Demon Doors in Fable and TLC?

Do you think they will be in Fable 2?

Do you want them in Fable 2?

Could their requirements be improved maybe a little more depth?

Re: Demon Doors

I think demon doors should be more subtle, hidden almost. You should have to think, "is that a Demon Door, or just an elaborate stone?" And the requirements should be more mysterious, like it doesn't tell you directly what you have to do.

Also, welcome to the forum:D

Re: Demon Doors

Yeah i think they need to be more subtle, i mean its a stone door that talks but not many people seem to care around you.

Re: Demon Doors

I liked how some of the doors were a little more cryptic in their speech...I'd like to see more of a puzzle element to the new ones, if they have them in Fable 2. And I'd like more doors to be dependent on your choices that you make - like when you can only open one of the doors if you marry Lady Grey in TLC.

Yeah that would definitely add to more re-playability if the rewards were worth it.

Re: Demon Doors

Wouldn't be fable without them. :D

Re: Demon Doors

i like the doors. they are funny. i would like to find more things when i open a door in fable 2

Re: Demon Doors

Yeah i agree with all of this. I'd love for the doors to be alot harder to open, making it more satisfying when you eventually decypher their riddles. And of course better rewards, and possibly larger areas behind them to explore.

Re: Demon Doors

oh yeah, I definately would like to see them make a reappearance in Fable 2. One thing I hope they change though is how they always talked in a droning monotone. I'd like to hear some emotion behind their riddles sometimes. The jokes some of them told definately would have been funnier had they not been slowly and boringly said in an old-man voice.

Re: Demon Doors

I'd like to see the demon doors lying to you. Or finding doors that are really, really hard to open!

Re: Demon Doors

Having the doors lie to you would be a good addition +rep :D

I'd like at least one door to send you on a wild goose chase - or even better, have it so that the "goose chase" is random and not specific to one particular door, so you never know which door is leading you on and which isn't. I'd like it to promise you certain things once you fulfill the requirements and then when you enter it, it's a trap and you have to fight enemies or negotiate a series of traps and pitfalls...or you are cursed somehow or lose part of your abilities and you have to do another quest in order to restore you to your former glory...

Re: Demon Doors

That sounds awesome. Afterall these doors are as old as albion they must get bored of asking people the riddles all the time. Your suggestions would make them so much deeper and entertaining.

Having doors lie to you and send you on wild goose chases etc would certainly incite emotion.

What if there were different rewards behind the doors depending on how you achieve a certain doors requirements? Say you are faced with a group of enemies inside a Demon Door and you take most of them out with your ranged weapon, maybe the game could recognise this and spawn a decent ranged weapon, or a good sword if you took them out with a sword and the same again if you used magic?

So different rewards that are based on your character and play style?

Re: Demon Doors

Yeah! Like, if you use magic, you get a unique spell.

Re: Demon Doors

That would be good - a lot of games give you better stuff according to how good you are or how proficient your skills in one area. Perhaps one door could come up with a riddle that, unbeknown to you, is designed to work out where you are flagging behind and then make it so you are forced to use weaker elements of you character. A different way of levelling up, I suppose. I mean, I wasn't a fan of bows in Fable TLC because I preferred the use of Lightning and watching their heads pop off...but say I was to visit one demon door and it saw that I was no good with a bow, the task behind it could be totally reliant on archery...

It would be really awesome if, again at random, when you opened a door, it transported you somewhere else entirely and you won't be able to get back until you do a series of tasks. But the rewards will be unique - like a weapon you cannot buy or find in a chest...or some new magic skills which cannot be taught or bought with experience orbs.

There could be one that says the other lies. Old puzzle I know =]

I like the trap Idea

I Like the idea of the contents being related to how you open the door + Rep

I would like to see all the Demon Doors broken into rock chunks that you have to find and put the door back together before you can even hear the riddle.

Also once you solve the riddle you owned the demon door and could put your own riddle on it. Depending on the level of the door you could add one or more of a set of requirements
  • Certain Objects (some requiring you to give up the object like a great weapon or armor)
  • Certain Expressions
  • Certain Stats(Evil/good,Strength/Skill/Magic,Renown,Kind/Cruel, Wealth/Poverty etc...)
  • Text Based Riddle Answers
  • Certain Completed Quests
  • Time of Day
  • Companion
  • Feats (combat multiplier, kill someone, get beaten up)
You get a certain # of points based on the level of the door and each requirements would be worth certain points.

You could put what ever you want in the chest*

So what's the Point in all this?
Once you own all of Albion (or maybe just beat the game) you unlock the ability for others to visit your Kingdom and do a replay the game with choices you've made.

What other things could be made unique once you own Albion?

*You could add objects to chests
You could populate a dungeon
You could place keys (fixed set of locations)

Re: Demon Doors

What if some doors only made themselves visible to you when you have reached a certain level of reknown, goodness or evil etc. This would add to replay value because you would be able to go back and play the game with a different alignment and unlock different content.

Imagine playing as a villain the first time round then playing as a hero and discovering a new door in an area you were sure you had thoroughly explored. This could work if all doors were made more
inconspicuous as Arseface said.

Re: Demon Doors

Harder challenges i mean "get fat to open me"... Not so hard

Re: Demon Doors

id love some more in-depth demor doors-demon doors were one of my favourite things

id love it if the older ones were more subtle and we learnt more of how they were made and things like that

Re: Demon Doors

maybe demon doors would have certain alignments, and depending on you would be to follow, or not to follow what the demon door asks. If he's evil, and you do what he says get ready for a goose chase.
It would be sorta cool to have a challenge to exit a demon door, and find traders dumb enough to go in and can't find there way out, that is if there was a challenge to get out

Re: Demon Doors

I hope they put it in Fable 2.... My favorite one is at the Demon Door is behind that hooker house... I almost peed when he said," How does it feel?"
