Disc Rattles in Xbox

Has anyone put a brand new disc(straight from gamestop with the plastic still on the box) in their xbox and it rattles like a son of a hobbe until it gets up to speed? It scared the living daylights out of me. It's Oblivion (which i finally forced myself to buy so i can stay busy til fable 3). I've experienced this before, but only with a rented disc that was nicked up around the edges and was causing instability in the tray while spinning. I've oriented my xbox vertically and horizontally and it still does it until it's spinning at full speed. I've installed the game to the xbox so it doesn't happen. But it's weird. Anyone get this?

Re: Disc Rattles in Xbox

It's probably a problem with your Xbox. I advise you to minimise you're use of it until you can get it fixed, lest it permanently ruin your game or worse, the Xbox itself.

Re: Disc Rattles in Xbox

Provided you're still within your standard warranty period - I'd recommend you contact Microsoft and have them fix your 360 for free. I haven't had it happen to me, but 360s in some instances are notorious for scratching the hell out of games if you're dealt with a defective unit. Check you're still within warranty, contact Microsoft, let 'em send "the coffin" and prepare to be away from your 360 for anywhere up to a week or two.

It's not fun but it's better taken care of now then later on down the line when Microsoft can fiddle you for a premium to fix it. My second 360 died one month after the warranty had ran out. My third 360 died (well... dying) two months after warranty had ran out.

Just my two pennies.

Re: Disc Rattles in Xbox

This happened when I fist put a brand new copy of CoD4 into my 360. Every time I started up the game it would rattle and was really loud, and like yours it would stop once it got up to speed. I didn't really do anything about it and it eventually quit doing it alltogether.

My old xbox used to do this. Once I had it replaced (it red ringed) the newer model hasn't ever made much of a peep.
