DOA Paradise not meant to Degrade Women

Tecmo's Yoshinori Ueda says the upcoming PSP exclusive Dead or Alive: Paradise is not meant to be softcore porn, despite the game's not-so-subtle marketing line: "Paradise in the palm of your hand." DoA: Paradise director Ueda told Eurogamer that the game only intends to showcase beautiful women and the "beauty of their bodies," but was firm (stiff, even) that the game isn't meant to be degrading toward women.

Featuring bikini-clad mini-games and the ability to photograph the virtual "beauties" without fear of a restraining order, Dead or Alive: Paradise isn't a traditional game; however, Ueda says the game features a number of different activities to engorge entertain gamers. The goal, it seems, is to allow players to escape to some kind of magical world: "we hope that people playing the game will be able to come away with the feeling that they've visited paradise," Ueda said.

Maybe not degrade, but it certainly objectifies them. Seriously though, this game could use some nice plus-size women... maybe some half-naked men.

Re: DOA Paradise not meant to Degrade Women

The only thing DOA has is tiny bikinis on large breasted women. Without that, It's nothing.

maybe some half-naked men.

When you see a half naked man, it's always in slow motion or it sticks out like a sore thumb. It's so funny how women say so much about men being manipulated by women through sex and... Stuff. But I could bet you anything that Matthew Fox could manipulate 10 women at once.

I'm going to make a game called "Slap a Chick".

It will be first person, the protagonist will be 'Michael McStudly Man'. He will wander around a brothel receiving services, and when it comes time to pay, he just slaps the women around until they are knocked unconscious. Then he will do inappropriate things to the unconscious (or possibly dead) body while being praised by male passersby. This continues indefinitely. The women will wear uncomfortable heels which will also be their largest article of clothing, have a familiarity with working in the kitchen, dealing with laundry, and cleaning floors. They will also be timid and usually keep their mouths shut. It is because they speak that they are to be beaten. Throughout the game, the game will explicitly encourage players to do as is done in the game.

This game exists. It is called 4chan.

Okay, I will never make a game like that. Because that would be degrading to women. Short of that, it's just people getting *****y. I hate it when I look at the news to see that a country has banned a game because it promotes violence towards women or children or animals or some crap like that.

Too late John, the Japanese already beat you to it years ago (and many more), it's called Artificial Girl 3 ... or was it Bonetown.

Not to mention the highly popular "Battle Raper"-series. Which, interestingly(or disturbingly) enough, is developed and released by the same developer as the "Artificial Girl"-series.

So the DoA-games are extremely tame when you consider all the ****ed up **** released in Japan.

Re: DOA Paradise not meant to Degrade Women

That isn't degrading, its just what Gikoku said, it objectifies them.

This is degrading [warning etc.]

First one was a joke, although I guess some feminists would find it offensive. Which is always a good thing.

EDIT: Tsuyu, you know there's a game for the DS where you can summon Cthulhu?

Yes. It is the one where you draw things or something...? I remember Yathzee talking about it in a review, anyhow.

Yes, there is one black girl in the DOA series named Lisa (that, or she's an Asian with a serious tan). She doesn't have much of a backside though.

Lisa is apparently black yes, although she seems to use luchadore moves. (I thought she was Latina)

Now that you mention it, her alter ego is a luchadora.. maybe she's mixed.
