How long does it take for the mine to turn up after you have done all the Driftwood-related quests? I've been sleeping, fast travelling all over Albion, doing other quests...nothing. I need to get in for my 29th Book.

Also - how does the adoption thing work because there are babies there but no children and no options at all to adopt?

The Driftwood Mine is there for most of the time. In both of my games as soon as I made it to Driftwood I could go into either entrance. But as long as ALL of the bridges are built and there are some stores on the big island you should be able to get to the book.

How far are you into the game? Have you finished and if so what choice did you make for the orphanage? I haven't found anywhere other than Bowerstone Industrial where you can adopt.

If you build the whore house, you can adopt children just outside the house.

I've completed the game, built the orphanage and done all the related Driftwood quests such as pest control and giftwood for driftwood but the mine isn't anywhere...

I went to the orphanage but nothing - there are people there but no children. The people have only just started spawning again in the towns since I went pure good and had no money in the treasury for the big fight at the end so maybe I just have to wait a bit longer for children to appear too? There are kids everywhere else except the orphanage...

I had the same problem.

You have to do all the quests related to driftwood, this includes quests you have to start outside of driftwood. There is a quest where you have to take a gambler from Bowerston Oldquarter (i think) to Driftwood. Maybe someone else will be able to tell you the name of the quest so you can look out for it. That should be the last quest to get access to the mine. If you then leave driftwood and come back a bit later it will be there. You can tell when the mine is there cause it will show up on the map. Good Luck.

For the Driftwood Mines, all you have to do is wait... If you got the "Island Paradise" achievement, then the mines should be open. If, however, you're still chasing the achievement, the quest that Reginald mentioned is called "An Island Getaway". You have to escort Rusty the gambler from Bowerstone Market tavern to Driftwood in this quest.

As for the orphanage, have you checked the LAST room in the orphanage? That's where all the children are... If you are seriously that lost for directions, just enter the Orphanage. From the front door, walk up the hallway all the way to the end. There will be two doors. The one on your left will have beds in its room. The room on the right will have the children you're looking for. Even if you didn't renovate the orphanage and made it into a whorehouse instead, the children will still be there but the room's door will be locked ( I don't want to know why they're there, but if you really are that sick in the head, look for the key to that door in the room that has a bar-looking thing.)
