What does everyone think about "Dystopian Literature"? Any books you'd suggest?
Or just your favorite science fiction book in general?
My favorites in terms of dystopian literature are Anthem, Enders Game(somewhat disputable), Children of Men....
My science fiction favorites are Ringworld and the Blue Mars "series...

I like Brave New World, but only because it's the only dystopian sci fi I've read where things are actually pretty good for everyone. I'd say it's more of a utopia.

Otherwise, I generally don't like them. I've got a more optimistic outlook on humanity.

Ringworld doesn't depict a dystopia.

I agree, although surely you don't think that we won't have some sort of nuclear fallout or 2nd Dark Age at some point in humanities' lifetime?

Maybe, maybe not. I definitely don't think it's inevitable.

I don't exactly think it's inevitable, I'm just incredibly certain it will happen at some point.

... That's the definition of inevitable.

i did read enders game a good couple years ago and liked it. went on to read the sequel, but it was pretty boringsauce in comparison.

course there's George Orwell (why has he come up in like 3 threads this week?)

No, I mean I don't think IT WILL DEFINITELY HAPPEN, I'm just pretty sure it will, open to it wither way, just a bit more over the "It-Will-Happen" side.

If you hadn't said "I'm incredible certain" I'd have agreed with you, but we get what you mean.

Obviously fake, but still pretty cool.

And I think some sort of global devastation is certainly possible, definetly not inevitable but also not outside the realm of logical possibility. It might not even be human-caused. Personally I think it would help humans to band together. Sort of like it starts dystopian, but becomes more evolved and stronger because of it, and finally overcoming it and rebuilding. Possibly into a new utopian society.

But hell who are any of us to say what will happen? We can only speculate at this point and draw reasonable conclusions from logic, and even then we can't hope to encompass all the possibilities that might mean.
