I figured that all of the E3 news will bring about a lot of threads if posted separately so I thought I'd post this thread as a core for it all. I'll post any news for any games in this thread and any trailers will be updated in the first post of this thread.

Although it looks like double posting, etc, I'll be posting separately for each story whether or not I have already posted above. I'm not post hunting, I don't "need" posts.

My main source for E3 will be this, you can keep tabs on it yourself if you want and post whatever you find too.

With all that sorted out, let's enjoy what E3 has to offer :D

E3 2009: Motion Sensing Game Available for Pre-Order

Written Sunday, May 31, 2009 by Jason Debelyak

A little over 12 hours from now, Microsoft will be hitting the stage for their press conference. However, thanks to our friends at Engadget, we have a juicy bit of information for you before Microsoft hits the stage. We've heard for over a year now about Microsoft possibly entering the Wii-esque area of motion sensing capabilities, and we've seen bits of information scattered around, whether it be the "Newton" controller or the motion sensing camera. Added to this gigantic rumor now is a game available for pre-order on Gamestop.com.

Squeeballs: Island Party will apparently be bundled with this brand new controller that will have the same type of motion capabilities as the Wii. The controller, named Gametrak Freedom (or "Freedom" for short), will be able to track the player's movements and translate them to the game. Sounds familiar right?

The game will feature 11 main games, which include Tenpin Bowling, Feeding Frenzy, Cannon, Cooking, Crazy Lanes, Paint by Squeeballs, Creature Testing Belt, Pumping, Squeeball Golf, Shock and Stampede. After challenges are met, new ones will unlock, which will result in over 150 unique games.

Of course, this is nothing more than a rumor at the moment, and we'll find out for sure tomorrow. But, this is an awful lot of information from a reputable retailer to not report it to you guys. Stay tuned all day tomorrow here at X360A for all the groundbreaking news as soon as it happens!

Creature testing belt? If it is what it sounds like there'll be complaints :P

E3 2009: Motion Sensing Gameplay Revealed [Updated with Details!]

Written Monday, June 01, 2009 by Jason Debelyak

We all knew it was coming, well here we go! The simple tagline explains it all, "You are the controller!" There will be a motion sensoring camera that sense your every move, from driving to fighting. You will use your entire body to enteract with the game with the use of full body motion capture. You can use your own gear to scan images, such as a skateboard that will be translated directly into the game.

This new feature will also include voice recognition, for areas such as game shows where you will be able to shout out the answers and the game will understand what you say.

The device is shown at the end of the trailer, pictures coming soon. I guess the motion sensor controller and the game was nothing but a rumor, but the motion sensor idea is indeed alive!

It is announced to be called Project Natal and will work with every Xbox 360 as well as being sold with Xbox 360s in the future.

Steven Spielberg comes on to talk about how this new technology will revolutionize gaming by allowing anybody to play video games by using your entire being instead of being hindered by a controller. Looks interesting indeed..

A demo is shown, starting with the Dashboard. As soon as you turn your Xbox 360 on, you will be automatically signed in because Project Natal will recognize you based on facial recognition. Wow! Also, you can navigate the Dashboard menus by moving your hands. The game Ricochet is demoed, which is basically Breakout, where your body is the paddle. The game recognizes your every body movement from head to toe. The technology will also allow multiple people to be recognized at once, allowing multiplayer games in the same room.

The second game demoed is Paint Party, which also recognizes voice recognition by saying colors or actions, and you use your hands you are able to splash colors onto the canvas. When forming actual pictures, you can use photo recognition by posing and forming a stencil. Kind of corny, but the way the motion sensor capabilities work are absolutely amazing!

Peter Molyneux comes out and shows a video enacting Natal in work and how innovative this technology can become. The video shows a boy named as Milo that is able to interactive directly with the person playing it, and is able to recognize what is said. Claire, the girl playing this interactive demo, was able to draw on a sheet of paper, hold it up to Milo, who then took it and was able to recognize everything including the color.

E3 2009: The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition Confirmed
Remember when we reported the "rumor" that The Secret of Monkey Island will return as a Special Edition on the Xbox Live Arcade? Well, no longer a rumor, as LucasArts today confirmed that the game will be reimagined for a release on the Xbox Live Arcade later this summer. This announcement also represents a new partnership between LucasArts and Telltale

Anybody have any fond memories of playing the Monkey Island series?

E3 2009: Konami Announces Zephyr: Rise of the Elements

Written Monday, June 01, 2009 by James Parkin

Konami today announced that Zephyr: Rise of the Elementals is currently in development for the Xbox 360.

Sinister forces have deceived you to believe that your destructive behavior will save an epic hero. In reality, you're working for evil. Take control of a dynamic tornado as you tear through open environments, chewing up the landscape and spitting out everything in your path. The more you destroy, the bigger you grow as you work against time based, collection and point challenges in the search for hidden elements and enemies from another world. Zephyr provides expansive sandbox type gameplay and real time destruction allowing gamers to destroy what they want, when they want, where they want!

Zephyr delivers humor filled missions and varying objectives, ranging from blustery mischief at a local trailer park to gale force feats in the middle of sprawling cityscapes. Diverse action packed gameplay provides both casual and hardcore gamers the ability to tear through towns in beautifully stylized high definition action! Double the destructive power by playing co-operative multiplayer where two players drive through environments picking up and tossing everything standing in their way in an effort to do battle against the evil Omegaton. The items in a player's path range from the usual rusted tractors and rustic farms, to the strange and unexpected as you tear your way through increasingly complex and crowded areas around the world. Through large open worlds, users can take control of how objects are damaged and destroyed with the active destruction game mechanic. For added replayability, players can complete multiple missions and destroy different objects within environments to maximize each level and earn extra points.

E3 2009: More Details & Trailer for Left 4 Dead 2

Written Monday, June 01, 2009 by James Parkin

Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises (such as Half-Life and Counter-Strike) and leading technologies (such as Steam and Source), today announced Left 4 Dead 2 (L4D2), the sequel to the best-selling and critically-acclaimed co-operative multiplayer thriller.

Coming exclusively to Xbox 360 and PC, L4D2 promises to set a new benchmark for co-operative action games and become one of 2009's marquee titles.

"A large part of how Left 4 Dead became 2008's top-selling new IP on Xbox 360 and the PC was the custom-tailored gameplay made possible by the AI Director," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "With the knowledge gained from creating the original, new technology, and a passionate team, L4D2 will set a new benchmark for cooperative action games."

Set for release on November 17, the title adds melee combat to enable deeper co-operative gameplay, with items such as a chainsaw, frying pan, axe, baseball bat, and more.

Introducing the AI Director 2.0, L4D's dynamic gameplay is taken to the next level by giving the Director the ability to procedurally change weather effects, world objects, and pathways in addition to tailoring the enemy population, effects, and sounds to match the players' performance. The result is a unique game session custom fitted to provide a satisfying and uniquely challenging experience each time the game is played.

Featuring new Survivors, boss zombies, weapons, and items, Left 4 Dead 2 offers a much larger game than the original with more co-operative campaigns, more Versus campaigns, and maps for Survival mode available at launch.

Supported by a $10+ million marketing campaign, Left 4 Dead has sold over 2.5 million retail copies since it was released in November of 2008. Left 4 Dead 2 is targeted for release on Xbox 360 and the PC on November 17, 2009, and will be launched worldwide with a multi-million dollar marketing campaign across TV, Outdoor, and Online.

"Left 4 Dead was backed by our most aggressive advertising campaign to date, and resulted in a top 5 showing on two platforms during holiday 2008," said Doug Lombardi, VP of marketing at Valve. "Left 4 Dead 2 is a larger game and will be supported with even more consumer and retail advertising programs than the original."
Features:

  • Next generation co-op action gaming from the makers of Half-Life, Portal, Team Fortress and Counter-Strike.
  • AI Director 2.0: Advanced technology dubbed “The AI Director” drove L4D’s unique gameplay – customizing enemy population, effects, and music, based upon the players’ performance. L4D 2 features “The AI Director 2.0” which expands the Director’s ability to customize level layout, world objects, weather, and lighting to reflect different times of day.
  • New melee weapons – axe, chainsaw, frying pan, baseball bat – allow you to get up close with the zombies
  • Four different survivors. New Story. New dialogue.
  • More game. On day one, L4D 2 features more co-operative campaigns, more campaigns and maps for the Versus game modes than L4D 1, plus support for Survival mode out of the box.
  • Stats, rankings, and awards system drives collaborative play

E3 2009: Retail Xbox 360 Games to be Downloadable on Xbox Live

Written Monday, June 01, 2009 by Jason Debelyak

Immediately following Microsoft's press conference, there was still some information that wasn't announced! You will soon be able to download full Xbox 360 retail games (just like Xbox Originals) directly to your hard drive! You won't have to be stocked on Microsoft Points either, as you'll be able to directly use your credit card for purchases.

Of course, options are always great, but I'd like to see the advantages of this, as it's always better to have a hard copy that you can later sell/trade at a later date. Whether or not this could lead to a potential rental service via Xbox Live is something that will be really interesting. More information on this groundbreaking feature as soon as get it.

E3 2009: Assassin's Creed 2 Details [Trailer Added]

Written Monday, June 01, 2009 by Jason Debelyak
Finally, the game that everyone was waiting to see at the Ubisoft briefing.. Assassin's Creed 2! The game will take place in the year 1486 in Venice, Italy during the Renaissance period. The trailer shows off some truly breathtaking visuals, including some "tricks" up the new assassin's sleeves. On top of the knives which we've seen in recent pictures, you will also have a gun hidden up your sleeve.

A truly amazing trailer which you can experience below!

We figured the little bit of info and trailer we dropped earlier wasn't enough, so we did a little more digging and found a bit more information on Ubisoft's upcoming title, Assassin's Creed 2.Assassin’s Creed 2 is the follow-up to the title that became the fastest-selling new IP in video game history. The highly anticipated title features a new hero, Ezio Auditore da Firenze, a young Italian noble, and a new era, the Renaissance.

Assassin’s Creed 2 retains the core gameplay experience that made the first opus a resounding success and features new experiences that will surprise and challenge players.

Assassin’s Creed 2 is an epic story of family, vengeance and conspiracy set in the pristine, yet brutal, backdrop of a Renaissance Italy. Ezio befriends Leonardo da Vinci, takes on Florence’s most powerful families and ventures throughout the canals of Venice where he learns to become a master assassin.

Key Features

EZIO, A NEW ASSASSIN FOR A NEW ERA
Ezio Auditore da Firenze is a young Italian noble who will learn the ways of the assassins after his family was betrayed and he looks to seek vengeance. He is a lady’s man, a free soul with panache yet has a very human side to his personality. Through him, you become a master assassin.

RENAISSANCE ITALY
Italy in the 15th century was less a country and more a collection of city-states where families with political and economic strength began to take leadership roles in cities like Florence and Venice. This journey through some of the most beautiful cities in the world takes place in a time in history where culture and art were born alongside some of the most auspicious stories of corruption, greed and murder.

A NEW-FOUND FREEDOM
You will be able to perform missions when you want and how you want in this open-ended world that brings back free-running and adds elements such as swimming and even flying to the adventure. The variety in gameplay adds another layer for you to truly play through the game any way you choose.

DYNAMIC CROWD
Discover a living, breathing world where every character is an opportunity for the player. Blending in with the crowd is easier, working with in-game characters provide ample rewards but can also lead to surprising consequences.

BECOME A MASTER ASSASSIN
Perfect your skills to become a master assassin where you brandish new weapons, learn to disarm enemies then use their weapons against them and assassinate enemies using both hidden blades.

That alright for ya?
