E3 2009: It's the Final Countdooooown.. Until LEGO Rock Band!

Written Wednesday, June 03, 2009 by Jason Debelyak

Some information is slowly starting to trickle in on the upcoming LEGO Rock Band. A few of the songs have been revealed, including Europe's epic "The Final Countdown". You will also take part in Rock Power challenges in order to destroy a giant robot and more. Also, a new Super Easy mode is revealed for the brand new rockers. I'm not sure how you can get much easier than Easy mode unless you're only using one button or two buttons, but I guess we'll find out more about that in the future. Enough from me, though, check out some of the details on the game:

GAME OVERVIEW:

LEGO® Rock Band® merges two of the most popular videogame franchises to deliver a unique family-friendly music experience that will take tweens, teens, families and gamers of all ages on a wild journey to rock stardom in order to “Build a Band and Rock the Universe.” Combining the authentic multiplayer music experience of Rock Band® with the accessibility, customization and humor of LEGO® games, LEGO Rock Band allows players to create their own unique rock star style and customize their own avatars, band members, roadies, and managers. As players successfully complete songs and rock challenges, they can collect LEGO studs, unlock additional content and build amazing vehicles, which can take their band from local gigs at rock clubs to epic stadium shows and even fantasy settings on Earth and beyond.

GAME FEATURES:

  • Rock along to current hits and classic favorites that the whole family will enjoy including Jackson 5’s “I Want You Back”, Foo Fighters’ “Breakout”, Vampire Weekend’s “A-Punk”, Blur’s “Song 2”, Carl Douglas’ “Kung Fu Fighting”, Europe’s “The Final Countdown”, Good Charlotte’s “Boys and Girls” and Pink’s “So What”, just to name a few!
  • Use the LEGO character customizer to create and personalize your band, instruments and entourage.
  • Pull off killer riffs in LEGO themed Rock Power challenges to perform amazing feats such as destroying a giant robot, summoning a storm or demolishing a skyscraper.
  • Build fame LEGO style by completing songs to collect LEGO elements - build cooler vehicles, progress to new venues and unlock new characters and instruments.
  • Express yourself with a personalized LEGO Rock Den that can be accessorized and decorated to perfectly suit your rock style.
  • All-access gaming! Start off on Easy, work your way up to Expert or try out the newly introduced Super Easy setting created especially for budding rock stars!
  • Rock out using Rock Band instruments, as well as other music game controllers.

Re: E3 2009

E3 2009: Squeeballs: Island Party Extended Trailer
Written Thursday, June 04, 2009 by Jason Debelyak

Remember that motion sensing game that we reported on earlier in the week? Well, the third-party developer isn't phased by the fact that Project Natal is coming to the Xbox 360. Squeeballs: Island Party will be the first multiplatform game that will feature it's own motion sensing controller. There will be 11 main games, such as tenpin bowling, that will also translate to 150 different game challenges. The game will launch on the Xbox 360 on October 15th! The full extended trailer is embedded below, showcasing how the controller will function.

The only question here is how many games will follow suit with this third-party motion controller? Only time will tell, I suppose..

E3 2009: Bioshock 2 Details and Screens
Written Sunday, June 07, 2009 by James Parkin

Step back into the unforgettable world of Rapture in BioShock 2, the next installment in the franchise that has won more than 50 Game of the Year Awards and has sold more than 2.5 million units worldwide. Developed by 2K Marin, 2K Australia and Digital Extremes, BioShock 2 provides players with the perfect blend of explosive first person shooter combat, compelling storytelling and intense multiplayer to form one of 2009’s most highly anticipated titles.

Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the halls of Rapture once again echo with sins of the past. Along the Atlantic coastline, a monster has been snatching little girls and bringing them back to the undersea city of Rapture. You are the very first Big Daddy as you travel through the decrepit and beautiful fallen city, chasing an unseen foe in search of answers and your own survival.

Multiplayer in BioShock 2 provides a rich prequel experience that expands the award winning BioShock gameplay. Set during the fall of Rapture, players assume the role of a Plasmid test subject in the underwater city that was first explored in the original BioShock. Players will need to use all the elements of the game’s toolset to survive as the full depth of the BioShock experience is refined and transformed into a unique multiplayer experience that can only be found in Rapture.

Singleplayer Features:

  • Evolution of the Genetically Enhanced Shooter: Innovative advances bring new depth and dimension to each encounter. New elements, such as the ability to dual-wield weapons and Plasmids, allow players to create exciting combinations of punishment
  • Return to Rapture: Set approximately 10 years after the events of the original BioShock, the story continues with an epic, more intense journey through one of the most captivating and terrifying fictional worlds ever created
  • You Are the Big Daddy: Take control of BioShock’s signature and iconic symbol with the original prototype Big Daddy, and experience the power and raw strength of Rapture’s most feared denizens as you battle powerful new enemies
  • Continuation of the Award-Winning Narrative: New and unique storytelling devices serve as the vehicle for the continuation of one of gaming’s most acclaimed storylines
Multiplayer Features:

  • Genetically Enhanced Multiplayer – Earn experience points during gameplay to earn access to new Weapons, Plasmids and Tonics that can be used to create hundreds of different combinations, allowing players to develop a unique character that caters to their playing style.
  • Experience Rapture’s Civil War– Players will step into the shoes of Rapture citizens and take direct part in the civil war that tore Rapture apart.
  • See Rapture Before the Fall – Experience Rapture before it was reclaimed by the ocean and engage in combat over iconic environments in locations such as Kashmir Restaurant and Mercury Suites, all of which have been reworked from the ground up for multiplayer.
  • FPS Veterans Add Their Touch to the Multiplayer Experience – Digital Extremes brings more than 10 years of first person shooter experience including development of award-winning entries in the Unreal® and Unreal Tournament® franchise.
