Esta un problema...?

umm...I'm kind of having the urge to ask this for some odd reason, but what do you think it means if a 19 year old male is sleeping with a teddy bear (and when I say "teddy bear" I mean teddy bear).

I don't think it's as much of a security thing as a comfort thing and I'm not 100% dependent on it (I can sleep over a friend's house without it). That can be seen as a security thing, but I don't know.

I sleep fully clothed (i.e. underwear, shorts(summer)/pajama pants(winter), and t-shirt and when I'm really cold I'll have a jacket or zip up hoodie). I sleep on my side kind of curled up (it can get into fetal position but only when I'm really cold or feel really scared (which doesn't happen often) and I can almost be straight on my back if it's too hot, but I always end up on my side).

When I sleep with it, I'm obviously hugging it, but only my arms are layed over it, sometimes I'll be hugging it completely (as in, hands touching it) but most of the time not. And sometimes I'll lose it, but unknowingly, seeing as I tend to toss when I sleep, though not too much, only a few times (3-5 on average). If I am to wake up in the middle of the night and not have it, I will look for it until I find it.

Another thing that may be of interest is that I don't usually remember my dreams (which I think means I come out of REM sleep at least a half hour before I wake up...(psychology)).

If anyone has any idea what this may mean subconsciously or personally input is encouraged. This is meant to be a more serious discussion, so just saying "you're wierd" isn't necessary...:)

Re: Esta un problema...?

I still have my bear, I have had him since before I can remember, so he is on my bed usually, I feel distressed when I cannot find him.

Re: Esta un problema...?

"Teddy Bear" is the name of my 357 mag. I sleep with that, does that count?

P.S. Yes my children, I have returned to you at last.

Get a girlfriend. Seriously.

yeah, about that.......that's a whole other topic that is toooooo deep to go into now, but I actually think you're on to something, as unnecessary as that was initially.

although Fenrir was far more unnecessary.

You're unable to let go of a childhood joy that brings you comfort, nothing really wrong with that. It's a little sad that many people believe they have to act a certain way or be like this & look like that because of their age and the influences from their peers and the media. I myself have one action figure left from when I was a kid sitting on our bookshelf, although I wouldn't freak out if I lost it.

People will laugh if a 25 year old male sleeps with a teddy bear, but if a 25 year old female does it... it's acceptable. Pretty silly.

Re: Esta un problema...?

Dammit, James. Now you went and made me sad.

Why?

If it's because I said I don't sleep with it, it's too darn big to fit on my bed with, that mostly why.

Nah, not that.

Reading your post made me think your father died... or does the bear just look like him? :ninja:

Died. No need to feel sad, I believe our young friend here has learned healthy ways to grieve and cope and accept and all that other stuff that goes with loved ones dying.

As sad as this seems I only cried while he was in the hospital for 2 days then I was mostly over it. It also may make me sound like an arsehole.

Nah, but it's good to see you're over it.

Re: Esta un problema...?

still got the teddy bear i've had since i was 2. since i named it when i was 2 it's name is "favorite teddy" and though i'm entertained that my mom keeps putting it on my bed, it usually winds up god knows where. yet for some reason she manages to find it and put it back on the bed every time (which i do find rather sweet).
enough talking about favorite teddy...

it's nothing to be ashamed of despite what anyone may or may not say. you either stop caring enough eventually, or ya keep doing it.

Re: Esta un problema...?

Top of my shelf is a looooooad of stuffed animals. I like keeping my childhood there. There is this seal... With a gray nose... I have had him for what seems like forever. It has always been there. If you mess with that, I'll break your damn face. But I would probably just find it annoying to have to hug something while I'm sleeping.

Yea, having a teddy is fine. Spooning it every night is not. Just going to throw that out there, along with the possibility that our man here might want to start weaning himself off of breast milk.

The few remnants of my past have their place in my life, but in my arms while in bed ain't the place.

haha, ok i do see your point. hell, i may go as far as agreeing with it.
but it's hard for me to say it unless i knew the guys age. but whatever, i don't think it's horribly wrong as long as he has the good sense to throw it under the bed if he's got a lady-friend over.

i mean honestly, we've all got **** we throw under the bed when a lady friends over. if i didn't i'd probably be the most boring person i know.

Re: Esta un problema...?

All of you dudes talking about how you have teddy bears and shelves of stuffed animals is rather intimidating. I haven't slept with a stuffed animals for as long as I can remember, nor do I have any in my immediate vicinity. I have a Total Gym, a guitar and a drawer of condoms. Hmm...I guess we can see who's more the man here.
All joking/emasculating aside, if it really bothers you that you sleep with a teddy the easiest solution is simply for you to stop doing so. You've admitted that you can get to sleep without it, so I don't see why you don't just retire Teddy to the shelf and get on with your life. It's really not a tough solution.

So basically it's this:

my lack of powers of observation serve justice once again. (yes, with that age some growing up would hopefully be in order)

But with a much older kid.The only stuff under my bed is a pair of boots and a steel pipe. Because I don't beat the crap out of people in my socks. But I'm not the typical case, so you might very well be right.
very satisfying and praiseworthy mental image there.

honestly, when a girl comes over i get the urge to take down every poster, hide every videogame, and throw favorite teddy in the closet where he's belonged for 15 years. mainly because if a girl saw those posters they would automatically judge my movie tastes leaving me no explanation. not that i'm ashamed for it, i much prefer speaking for myself as i love movies.

in the end nothing gets taken down, unfortunately. but the sad truth is that if she doesn't like the same bizarre **** that i do it was never meant to be.
:)

Re: Esta un problema...?

You guys don't sleep in the nude? What better way to deter a would-be burglar than to charge him naked with a baseball bat, swinging and flailing wildly?

Or failing that, swing and hit him with the bat.

Surely you sleep with that bandana every night.
