Speaking to members of the XCN during a special event held in London yesterday, Peter Molyneux of Lionhead Studios let slip in a round about manner that Fable 2's combat would change depending on who you played with - implying that not only will gamers be able to team up with AI but also with a friend. He didn't mention whether this was online or offline but we can be pretty sure that online is what he meant.



We've all known for some time that Fable 2 would feature some sort of multiplayer and so this news confirms that Fable 2 will be playable with others. Peter has mentioned aspects of his games in the past that haven't come to fruition but in this case he seemed very confident that playing with a friend would feature in his latest creation.

From what we can gather, players will be able to show off their world and share the experience with friends and even though he mentioned "infinite possibilities" within the Fable 2 world, his idea is one where gamers will be able to drop in and out of games with friends without the unnecessary clutter of lobbies and such like. It will be interesting to see how this pans out.

Finally Peter couldn’t resist letting slip one secret about the game by saying "wouldn’t it be great if you could share this experience with someone?" what this means we can only speculate, however wouldn’t it be great if he meant that Fable 2 will include a two player co-op mode or Xbox Live co-op?

Fable 2 won’t all be serious stuff though as Lionhead are keen to add some humor to the game, one example of this is when a bard you meet asks to adventure with you, if you allow him to tag along he will then write songs of your adventures, however should you run away during a battle you will soon find that he has wrote a song about what a coward your are and performed it in front of everyone in the local tavern, however as Peter says "you can always kill him".


While the bard may not be the perfect traveling companion you do have one that will be a lot more reliable, this one comes not in the form of a human but a dog, Peter told us that he is an incredible companion and that it really feels like he is alive, however he was unable to elaborate further than this.

Interesting... The secrets of Fable 2 are finally revealing themselves... sort of. Anyway, this is finally getting interesting. And more importantly, yea, multiplayer!

hmmm having ai coming along with you may suck a bit i know its just gona be me and my dog ai gets in the way(oblivion)

I'll be keeping my fingers and toes crossed in hopes that Molyneux was actually referring to multiplayer co-op - that would just be too cool.

Good find Todd, some interesting looking ideas they have right there and id like a co-op definitely though im taking all info with a pinch of salt. I think co-op in games is seriously underused and can be a huge selling point and add so much more replayability to a game.

Splitscreen on most games is being slowly faded out as its to restricting and can cause way to many problems. Can do a lot more with online co-op and you have whole screen to yourself, plus its an extra incentive for people to get Live (as if they need one).

It wouldn't have to be split screen it could be like Star Wars Legos but that has it's own problems. Live is the best choice.

Limited to a certain distance you can go from eachother?

Exactly my daughter and I are ofter fighting each other in what direction to go. We worked out that before the game starts one of is designated as the leader.

Yeah and with a game like Fable 2 and people wanting to go on their own journeys it just wouldnt be feasible.

Woah, i'm speechless. It seems co-op has been confirmed, and the distance between me and Fable 2 is shortening. They're right, Peter Molyneux is very passionate about games and I doubt anyone can say he's lieing about the co-op feature :lol:

I agree that Fable 2's co-op almost has to be online, but I'd like to mention a slight problem about online-only co-op anything:

What happens when, say, I'd like to get together physically with my friends and play a game together? Why sorry, you can only play games online together. XP At least some sort of LAN would be nice, although my friends insist on playing in seperate rooms then complain about my inability to communicate with them (Why the hell would I want to shout across the house?)

Still really, really excited about it all, though.
