Fable 2 VS. Elder Scrolls Oblivion

Re: Fable 2 VS. Elder Scrolls Oblivion

mana..ok i agree... it's a pesky culprate in nearly all alternate world RPG's, but charging up spells? YUCK! the first slot spells never do anything, that's why i just use "Slow Time" :)
the assassin rush could have been better in F2, my A button was getting stuck my character was going so slow!

Re: Fable 2 VS. Elder Scrolls Oblivion

i wasnt ordering him around. In fact, he's been commenting frequently on my posts. I reply with snark comments when others direct the same towards myself.

And improving stats isn't done with spending experience, but instead by doing whatever it is that needs improving. Brilliant.

There was a horrible downside to that though. For example, skills like Athletics. If you by poor luck or choice got a class which had Athletics as a class skill, you'd level up quickly by just traveling around. That meant you'd meet tougher monsters without the fighting/magic skills required to face the challenge. Speaking of which, I wasn't too fond of the "enemies leveling up with you"-system. Sometimes you just want to take that new shiny weapon and go on a power-trip by killing heaps of low level enemies!

What I really, really liked about Oblivion was that one weapon or one armor piece can be turned into a vast array of improved equipment through enchantments. Fable's iron longsword will always be an iron longsword, but Oblivion's iron longsword can be personalized. Spells, well, I like the appearance of spells in Fable more than how they are presented in Oblivion, but what I like more is that in Oblivion, spells aren't fixed and set in stone. I can't have an epic evil pentagram soul suck horror in Oblivion, but I can have infinite possibilities of spells. In Fable, I can't have a spell that boosts my ability to steal and remain undetected at the same time. In fact... stats. Stats are another thing I really liked better about Oblivion. I wasn't too fond of the leveling, but the stats were great. And improving stats isn't done with spending experience, but instead by doing whatever it is that needs improving. Brilliant.

Thats actually a great paragraph of reasons, although i do kind of agree with Tsuyu on (the enemies level with you) what i think should have happened is more high level enemies appear in place of low level enemies, yet still having fairly weak enemies appear alongside the high levels.
It was fairly hard to get a huge amount of money without cheating in Oblivion, i mean... i'm king of the shivering isles, yet i dont get as much money as a realisticly should!

Re: Fable 2 VS. Elder Scrolls Oblivion

I like the "have enemies based on area"-system. It still gave you a challenge if you tried to advance the game, but you could still go back to the lower level areas. I think it is the ideal solution.

Re: Fable 2 VS. Elder Scrolls Oblivion

Yes. Whenever i needed to upgrade my magic i'd just summon a skeleton and switch the difficulty to hard, then electricute them 10 times over!

Re: Fable 2 VS. Elder Scrolls Oblivion

I wasn't really thinking of TLC. I was thinking of Diablo II, heh. It could be quite easy to get to work with Oblivion: have some low level goblin caves around the towns, then scatter progressively harder enemies the further you go "into the wild".

Re: Fable 2 VS. Elder Scrolls Oblivion

I really hated the levelling system in Oblivion - I agree with Tsuyu that some higher levelled areas would be better to have. It got to the point that if I was lvl 45 in Oblivion I would go out into the wild and see no bears, wolfs, etc., but land dreughs and Xivilai instead. And whenever I wanted to be an archer, I would have to give up past lvl 30 because it got too hard.

Re: Fable 2 VS. Elder Scrolls Oblivion

It's true that TES leveling system is not perfect, but it's much better that Fables... I mean... collecting experience orbs and stuff... it's simply to childish... I feel like I'm playing Super Mario or something... and horns when you are evil and aureola when your good... I mean... come on... that's stupid and childish in my opinion...
What truly evil guy want's horns on his face that tell everyone that he's an donkeyhole who'll kill 'em all?
And eating meat makes you bad and vegetables good... what kind of bulldung is that? -.-

Then players won't go into the caves, at least not until they can easily overpower everything in the caves ten times over.

Well, that's their problem, is it not? Can't blame the system for cowardly players. Besides, you'd make quests and such send you to the areas that are fitting for your level.

Never played Diablo II, any good?

Diablo II is the action role-playing game. It is one of my favourite games of all times.

Re: Fable 2 VS. Elder Scrolls Oblivion

Hey, in my opinion, Fable is better.

Fable 2 pros:
-everyone looks cartoonish
-pretty fast solid combat system
-blue orbs :D
-humor
-cool high level spells
-easy for n00bs
-the fuzzy dog (:
-beautiful nature
-some good clothing
-childish
etc...

cons
-VERY easy
-ugly heroes and people
-kinda short
-not much clothes to buy/find
-the jobs are booring
-childish
-doesn't matter what you wear. You arent able to take any more beating if you were plate mail than if you're naked
-most of the spells are the same

Oblivion pros
-BIG, free-roaming world (F2 does not have that!)
-lots of armor, spells, weapons
-roleplaying
-many cool details; for example, you can pick an apple up from a table and eat it.
-pretty long
-there's much more challenge than in Fable
-many nice cities
-horses that you can ride
etc...

cons
-animations are just plain bad.
-combat system is no way near Fable 2's
-nature isn't that beautiful
That's all i can think of

And btw... DIABLO II IS THE BEST RPG EVER!

Re: Fable 2 VS. Elder Scrolls Oblivion

I prefer fable over oblivion. I love oblivion but even though it's more open than fable it seems fable gives you more freedom of choice. If that makes any sense.
