Well, I've actually begun trading in Fable II (I know, it's really late to be doing that!) and obviously anyone who knows the trading system (if you can even call it one) was hugely flawed. I'm not too sure about the trading system in Fable III but maybe in Fable IV there could be some type of "auction house". You would have a menu of items listed and certain criteria you would list for buying it. Say..
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Selling-
1 Daichi for a minimum of 7,000 crunchy chickens and 1 Hammerthyst.
3 Choppers for a minimum of 300 crucible peanuts and 1 sex change potion
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1 real time day later, after you've mysteriously collected 7,000 crunchy chickens you would go to the auction house with your chicks in hand, sit down (in game character) and bid on the daichi you were looking for. Maybe you could own the auction house and certain players who have high quality items would charge more money to particapate?
Maybe certain players would want to place their items in another players auction because their friends are really good at Fable? It would actually be kind of fun after you beat the game. Maybe your version of albion is having a famine and you need to go get 500 bottles of water? Buy cattle for someone? And then regular traders would just sell the small quantities like they normally do. The requirements would be you have to either sell something at a really low price or there is some special quality to the item itself. I don't know, It just seems like people never really trust you in multiplayer because Lionhead must not actually play their games after they develop it? Maybe they only play with other people at Lionhead? I don't know but hey never seem to get the trading functionality right. But this would create a safe place to sell or auction your items while still creating a nice trading ecosystem that would help keep people interested after they complete the main story line. Maybe brining a little MMORPG style trading wouldn't be so bad after all? Thoughts?
