Fav concept albums.

What are your favorite concept albums and why? Mine are "Operation Mindcrime" and "Mechanical Animals"

Mindcrime: Story brought me in, and it is really VERY deep to me. The backstabbing, the suspense, the mood, amazing.

Mechanical Animals: I have recently discovered Nihilism as one of my latest fascinations (I have always been wierd, before I had an interest in Buddhism and Japanese culture, such as Anime and spirits.) Now not only do I find Nihilism fascinating, I find it comfortable, odd, then I started listening to this album 2 days ago and it spoke to me.

Re: Fav concept albums.

All of Coheed and Cambria's albums to date except for the one after Amory Wars are about two fictional characters named Coheed and Cambria. It's an epic story.

Dream Theater's Octavarium is a concept album for us math-heads too, as the numbers 5 and 8 are referenced a lot in it.

- 5 guys in the band
- 8 songs on the CD
- Their 8th studio album
- Panic Attack is in 5/8 time
- Octa- means something to do with 8

There's probably more that I missed.

These are more like concept songs, but Kansas' album before Leftoverture had a song at the end of the album called The Pinnacle, about a child's father dying. The first song on Leftoverture is Carry On Wayward Son, the sequel to The Pinnacle.

That's not really what the song is about though...

I know, but it's in it. It's an amazing song, lyrics aside anyways... Pink Floyd makes some weird songs, but they're cool.

Pink Floyd's The Wall.

Mines a Floyd too, but it's not the wall. Dark Side of the Moon is just so ground-breaking. There isn't a bad song on there. The Wall probably had the same amount of decent songs, but was twice as long and filled with pansy fill in songs.

Another Brick in the Wall is just that: Another Reason for Pink's Wall being built. Another thread in a tapestry of despair.

Daft Punk - Discovery. You know, with the alien band from outer space.

David Bowie did one like that...

On The Run (Track 2) and Any Colour You Like (Track 7) were pretty weak tracks in comparison. The wall may have had more filler, like you said, but the message was much more extreme and distinguishable. I don't think i could tell you any sort of message on Dark Side.

It's about life, money, old age and death. And those pieces are probably the weakest on there, but they're still good. And besides, I said song. Those pieces don't have any singing in them, so they're not songs.*

The Wall was way too Roger Waters, and anyone who knows Pink Floyd will know that he's a whingey git who killed the band. His songs are way too woe was me, and he wouldn't let anyone else write any songs for the band after Animals. The Wall and The Final Cut being his last two albums, and The Final Cut even had "Written by Roger Waters, performed by Pink Floyd" on the sleeve. Not to mention it was probably their worst album.

*Yes I know I'm being extremely semantic.

Sure it is "woe is me", but in the case of The Wall it works. Can't say I really like The Final Cut that much though...

When you think of it as a story it's great. But when you just think about it as an album, it's not that good.

Its... different, yes. With the way all the songs blending together. I wouldn't say that makes it a bad album though.

Neither would I, but it's still tedious.

Dark Side has that aswell.

Possibly true, but both Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall were the 2 Pink Floyd albums that were for the most part entirely by Roger Waters...saying one is too Roger Waters when compared to the other is something of a contradiction...

Dark Side was more of a collaberation between Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Richard Wright. The Wall was all Roger Waters (excepting three songs)
